VoIP isn't supported by the game directly.  You need an external program like Ventrilo or Teamspeak.

Having played CS and seen the results of such a system, probably not.

This may or may not have been a joke, but do they encourage visitors? It would be fun to talk to folks. I used to play a quite different game with voice.

Tried it out, hope that was ok. Tom seemed friendly.

Sorry I didn't get my sound working while you were there. I think I figured it out afterward.

There are always lotsa guys on that server (since it's the only clan-based ts server (in America)).

Not a problem. One thing: turn up the voice activation level or turn down your speakers. When I talked I could hear everything I said cause your mic was close to the speakers. Turn up the voice activation level or use a push to talk key, if you had just talked I would of heard what you said :P

Headphones > speakers.

Some people use Ventrilo, as well, which I think has much better sound quality, personally.  It also text-to-speeches player names instead of the generic "player left" messages teamspeak has.  The new version restricts the number of people that can connect to a server, so you have to grab an old one.  There's a copy here:

http://digitalpaint.org/test/Ventrilo.zip

Servers to connect to are: 216.127.68.86 (or dplogin.com) and 69.93.11.66 (if GT still has theirs up with that version).  I think more people use the teamspeak server, though.

GRaFFiTi's Ventrilo still runs 24/7 and I agree with you about the sound quality. A Headset/Mic combination is the only way to go IMHO.  With Ventrilo you have total control of your settings which you can tweak to perfection and you can turn off ALL the annoying sound events if you like.  I didn't know about 216.127.68.86...  Is that yours Jitspoe?

Yeah, that's the EV1 server.  It doesn't see much action.  I mostly just use it with friends I know IRL.

As it turns out my mic was muted (was recording some stuff for a radio station and forgot to undo the setting).  I had assigned a push to talk key. And I was wearing headphones.  So I am not sure how the speakers could have fed back through, though I have seen that effect in Ventrillo, etc. before.

Must have been some other strange setting.

Ah, now Vent I like. The text chat features make it nice when playing with those who don't have mics. They can still inform you through the tts.

And as I understand the new client works fine with more than 10, it is a server-side issue that hard codes the 10 player limit. And if you buy a commercial server they work that out for you.

EDIT:...ah ok, makes sense now...they can't connect to the newer client.

Alright, I have both vent servers entered in now and connected fine. We should really advertise this more.

Correct... Why get the new version which has a limit on allowed users unless you PAY for it when you can use the perfectly operational, kid tested mother approved FREE OLDER Version?   ;D ;D ;D
