team commands
« on: November 01, 2006, 10:01:01 PM »
i have a long addition in my config file making getting at team commands easier using the numpad (ie. say_team behind you, say_team go...). i have it so when i hit the period/delete key on the numpad a popup comes up (the first pic). then i hit a number for a submenu, then another for the command. is there a way that i can do this so i can still use my mouse? currently im using a menu with no background and with type dialog so you loose partial control. are there some settings that i dont know about that would help me out? thanks

so i put it just added a bunch of random words... i was just trying to see if it worked. and i forgot to add to my first post and dont feel like editing it: could something like this be easily implemented into pball? i mean, not having to use 40 lines of alias's? and the whole loss of control thing.

How do you use your mouse and numpad at the same time?  Are you left handed?

Currently the menu system takes control of the mouse, so there's no way to use the mouse in-game while a menu is up.  That will probably get tweaked in the future (primarily so people can use the mouse with the scoreboard).

i use a laptop and have a usb numpad so i can use my left hand with it. i can also play the game with one hand using the mouse pad, but i really stink at it, so i dont play that way.

would there be a way to use the hud instead of the menus?

You should make it more like a radio. It displays text and plays a sound file. Like have it say to team hello, then play a sound that has a person saying hello, but make something where you can turn the sounds off in case you dont want people spamming with sounds

Radio is a great idea, W:ET would be nothing but chaos without it. The game would have to be modified even more for that though, to be able to play .wav files on your teammates computers would be a bigger step than say_team menu's I'm thinking.

ok, ive figured out that i can use the crosshairs instead of the menu. however, i cant get wally to export an indexed pcx image. i got it to work once, but that was it, and i cant figure out how to do it again. any ideas?

btw, {appy Hamper is also looking for help with crosshairs.

TGA files would probably work better.  You can export those from Gimp or Photoshop.  I think the menu system is the way to go, though.  Is the mouse cursor the only thing that's stopping you?  Adding a menu option to remove the mouse might be a quick fix that I could throw in for the next build.

i didnt know that crosshairs worked with tga files. but yes the mouse cursor is the only thing stopping me, and i would much rather use the menu system then go through the crosshair.
