Rules of a 4-team match?
« on: September 12, 2004, 07:22:47 PM »
If 4 clans were to compete in a match, how should the wins/losses for each team work?  Would it just be winner takes all: winner gets 3 wins, each other team gets 1 loss?  Or something like: 1st place gets 3 wins, 2nd place gets 2 wins and 1 loss, 3rd place gets 1 win and 2 losses, 4th place gets 3 losses?  The first is simpler, but kind of a gyp for 2nd place since they did technically beat 2 clans.

how 'bout,
1st-3wins
2nd-2wins
3-1loss
4-2loss

Then, there's still the 1/2 chance of winning/losing...thing.

Well, you'd need to have the same number of total wins as losses, especially once I get web statistics implemented.  Each win and loss will have to correlate to specific teams in order for the ranking to work right.

Or something like: 1st place gets 3 wins, 2nd place gets 2 wins and 1 loss, 3rd place gets 1 win and 2 losses, 4th place gets 3 losses?

This makes the most sense.

We had a 4 team match once. DOM, Smurf, cP, and someone else.  It was whoever won got 3 wins, 2nd got 2 wins and 1 loss, 3rd got 1 win and 2 losses and last got 3 losses.  We had agreed to this more than a week in advance.  Of course come time to play, everyone else backed out of the agreed upon terms.  DOM lived up to our agreement, I dont know if everyone else did.  But that makes the most sense to me doesnt it?  Its kind of like 3 matches together.  DOM vs Smurf, DOM vs cP and DOM vs the other team.  I count three.

Yeah.  Makes sense to me.  I'll go with that.

I want to make some kind of database that keeps track of who's in what clan, allows you to schedule matches, and keeps track of each clans stats (wins/losses to who and when).  Eventually I'd like to tie it into the server code so it could keep track of stats down to the number of paintballs fired.  Hopefully it'll bring a lot more fun and organization back into the matches.

I like the idea of a higher score for the team that comes in 1st. But you should never gain 'losses' in a tournament. You could do it like Mario Kart :)

9 points = 1st place
6 points = 2nd place
3 points = 3rd place
1 point = 4th place

i've been thinking of this idea for a long time actually, just never got it out in public really. Maps like mirage.bsp would be perfect for this sort of match

But then the longer a clan has been playing, the (much) better they seem.
