New paintball goggle effect and zoom crosshair
« on: December 27, 2004, 11:11:54 PM »
Here is the more realistic 'goggle' effect, I figured it would make the game a bit more challenging and add some realism.

And just in case a scope ever gets implemented into pball (doubt it) heres a crosshair for it.

Just so you know, scopes are useless in this game. You've got no chance of hitting someone you're looking at if you need a scope to be able to hit.

And nice triple post. You know about the 'modify' button?

Excal:
I know it's possible, but if you need a scope to see him, the arc will be enough so that the crosshairs won't be anywhere near him. You'd usually have to aim up quite a bit from where he is.

this ties in with my new topic physics fo shizle ...if we could alter the effects of grave for a sniper class weapon it woudl be usefull ....or use my 20" hard steel barrell ... :-* for a more stratigic game ...hmmm that last part sounds familier ...I wonder if someone posting recently has wanted the same thing --more stratigic gameing on paintball ...i know its been explored before . just trying to help

Okay, changed the first mask so its not all blurry around the edges and looks a bit cooler (but not so err...paintball-ish?). Now to answer your questions simply.

All I really did was made a crosshair with transparencies that had the masking around it. Looks cool but might run a bit slow on older computers. Although I have talked to jitspoe about it, im gonna see if he could possibly implement it into the next version and make it move when you breath.

As for the scope, it really depends on the level of zooming you do, I usually only zoom to about 35-45, so the paint still hits inside the reticle. But with the drop, no it wont hit where the lil red dot is... :)

Whoa, paintball in the future! :)

This is something I've considered adding, but decided not to for a few reasons:
a) People would refuse to update because it would put them at a disadvantage.
b) If I made it optional, most people would probably just disable it, except for the new players that didn't know how and would be at more of a disadvantage than they already are.
c) You don't really "see" real masks while you're wearing them.  They just reduce some of your peripheral vision, which you don't really have in the game to begin with.

I suppose it could be added as an optional feature, disabled by default...

You mistype pgp a lot. :)

I don't know how well a sniper weapon would work in this game (do sniper paintball guns even exist?)  It would require a properly designed map... maybe I'll look into it when I get the current stuff knocked off of the todo list... so like 10 years from now. ;)

lol jit. no they dont exist if they did you would have to have the c02/comprased air to high for legel use. 10 years sounds good to me.

Okay, final remake of it, this time I kinda followed what jitspoe said about it removing some peripheral vision. I remade it after looking at a pball cam thats attached to the inside of a mask that emulates what the player sees. As you notice, not much of a disadvantage is added, you can still see practically everything.
