Could anyone recommend me a lightweight irc client, something one may use at work etc? Portable would be nice too

The one Nick has is probably perfect for you, but if you ever wanted to directly connect to the ggc IRC server in a browser very quickly, you can use this: http://www.globalgamerscenter.net/pjirc/chat.php. (Requires Java)
