Port Forwarding(Do You have to do it on a modem?)

I was wondering if you need to forward any ports on a modem, if so can some one please post a link.

Also no one can see my server....I have allowed ports(ill update in a sec)

You only need to forward ports on a router.

If it connects directly to the internet, it's a modem. If it links several computers together, it's a router.

If you have a router connected to your modem, cable or dsl it doesn't matter, you will NEED to know how to forward ports on your router so that the outside world can see your server.

Now on to a seperate matter:

Under most circumstances home based servers do not work very well ( read: they suck).

Just keep that in mind.

When configuring your router you may need to read the server guide.  It says to allow UDP packets from port 27910 incoming.  It should already allow outgoing packets.  That worked for me.  If you have a modem i wouldn't have the faintest idea what to do.

Yes, but at the time, it was not established if he had a router or not. All we knew was he had a modem, and no one knew if he even needed to forward ports. Eiii ignored the situation where you could have both the router *and* the modem, which most people with DSL or Cable have.

You *don't* need a router to connect to the Internet. There are *other* possible reasons as to why a server would not show on the server list.
