Hey lately I was having a discussion with a couple people about which was better XP or Vista and I was wondering what you guys thought.

I fear going to vista because of all the problems it has, so i use windows XP. I happen to use the vista theme, dockbar, and sidebar, because they are nice features, but everything else is XP.

XP, since it has less bugs i suppose.

Vista has given me many problems like openGL, certain programs not running and that sort.

I'm using Vista. It has brought me some incompatibility problems, but otherwise it works fine so far.

I dislike the Aero theme, except for the task bar and the window borders. Everything is really anti-productive, from its overly large dialogs, to the giant menus that take up so much more space. In addition, it seems Microsoft has no sense of font consistency. Aero only lasted a few days with me before I switched to the Windows classic theme. I wish I could use Windows XP themes though, because I have one that I modified to my taste.

I love the networking ease of Vista (at least, what I had experienced). However, I hate just about everything else. The whole openGL thing, compatibility issues (severe in my case), and the whole widget thing they stole from Mac are all too much of a price to pay for the networking.

I'm not gonna even think of touching Vista again for another year or so. There is also a good chance I'll never use it again and just switch to Linux.

Run from Vista to XP.

Actually, if you just need an office computer and know what you're doing, linux is the way to go.

...and the whole widget thing they stole from Mac...

And Mac stole it from Konfabulator. That is, if you don't consider the existence of the Microsoft's Active Desktop widgets that were available back then. (And I wouldn't consider Mac's DAs widgets, because they were created for a time when you couldn't multi-task applications).

Slackware 12 :D

In all honesty.. I'd choose XP pro if I had to choose between the two. I don't like the addons and 'organizing' done in vista. It's too big of a jump too soon(complete dropping of the win32 library emulated through aero, the new organizers[all "games" starting to be forced to register with a games application manager?]) too much organization of programs and such is annoying to me. Also the copy protection in vista bothers me. Change a few components on your computer a few times too many, boom blackscreen(sorry frequent upgraders).

Not that vista doesn't have its plusses, especially for the general computer user.. It's just not for me ;)

Probably. However, thats because Vista needs a computer on steroids to run, and XP doesn't.

XP for the moment, due to reasons such as bugs, and lack of compatibility. I may well change my mind once SP1 is released for Vista though. This usually sees more companies updating their software/hardware to be fully Vista compatible, and of course the bug fixes :P

Vista.

Because of widgets? You could make the exact same desktop on XP.

Vista.

Um. That looks like XP to me. :P

Edit:
It is!! Vista doesn't use spaces in the files. Like "Documents and Settings" was renamed "Users" and such.

It's definitely XP... it's a theme, in Vista, the taskbar is rendered and thus can't be easily changed.

Windows 95 ftw ;)

I use xp. Maybe I´ll switch to Vista in next couple of years. For now, I don´t see the reason why I should switch. XP works fine for now.
