Rebuilding our Wikipedia presence
« on: October 05, 2007, 07:30:37 AM »
Okay, so our Wikipedia entry was deleted again, this time for not meeting the Wikipedia Notability requirements.  Before someone goes and posts a new entry, we should take a serious look at meeting this requirement.

I found out today that are game is being cited as Digital Paintball 2.0 on most sites.  This isn't shocking news, but I wasn't searching for "Digital Paint 2.0" when trying to defend the marked for deletion.

Here is what I found:
http://www.e-pcmag.gr/modules/pcmag0/index.php?id=24
PC Gaming in Greece had packaged this game into their packaged DVD sometime in 2006.
http://www.pbreview.com/products/reviews/2954/
A dozen game reviews from very popular paintball review site, PB Review.
http://www.globalgamerscenter.net/?p=news&id=50
http://www.globalgamerscenter.net/?p=news&id=55
http://dpcup.globalgamerscenter.net/
Coverage from GGC for their DPCup tournament.
http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=MOTW.Detail&id=100
http://planetquake.gamespy.com/View.php?view=MOTW.Detail&id=49
PlanetQuake Mod of the Week articles.

Please post anything you've found on here.  Also, can someone provide more details about the show that aired in Germany with PB2 on it.  Looking around at some of these sites I've come across, this game looks terrible.  A perfect example is a POTW on PQ this year for B19, that shows a pretty boring screenshot that is using the ancient HUD, so who knows how old that screenshot really is.  The PBReview and a handful of non-english download sites are using a screenshot of [DsC]Cy with a rediculous hudscale and garbage taking up most of the screen.  That pic is ancient as well.  Most sites are branding this game as "Digital Paintball 2.0" which causes confusion with HL's DPB (this is mainly KuJa/whoever's fault for picking that name though).

That's an auomtated sponsored link.  If you click it, there are no listings because no one has sponsored pbreview to put a listing up for "Digital Paintball 2.0".

Unfortunately, I can't find anything about it. Might be too long ago since that show was aired (Like mid '04'ish).

I don't think that an old German source will help that much. ;)

A TV appearance must help with notability though!

It doesn't matter how much notability we have if the dedicated wikipedia editors/trolls haven't heard of us. :P

Haha, no kidding.  I didn't realize how bad it was until I started looking into people's accounts who supported this delete.  It's too bad that they have to dump on a nice little open source project because the game isn't being publicized the way it should be.

The biggest thing that bothers me about Paintball 2.0 not being notable... is that this stuff is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenArena

How does that even make sense.

Is there something wrong with my grammar or are you agreeing that our mod is just as much if not more notable?

Paintball2 was deemed to be not notable enough to deserve a spot on the great Wikipedia, and what bothers me about it is that other open-source shooters ARE notable enough.
