Multiple Account Punishments
« on: October 09, 2007, 05:47:31 PM »
One of the rules you explicitly agree to upon registering an account is that you are only allowed 1 account.

Quote
Only One Account Per Person
1. One. Uno. Un. Once you've registered an account, you can add multiple player names to it, so there should be no need for additional accounts. Creating new accounts to avoid server bans or other similar activities will result in a global ban.

We are cracking down on the use of multiple accounts, and as such the punishments are being made explicit for you here:

  • Intentional registration of multiple accounts = 16 day ban
  • Admitted registration of multiple accounts = 8 day ban
  • Accidental registration of multiple accounts = warning

As the above explains, if you come forward with your multiple account, you can expect more lenient action to be taken. If anyone is caught registering accounts to avoid a current ban, they can expect their ban to be restarted, plus the ban time for the registering of multiple accounts.

By the way, if someone did it accidentally, will the inactive one be deleted?

How would you deal with multiple accounts because they're siblings? Should we have a representative for certain area to confirm that indeed there is a sibling playing... AND that it needs to be updated every year or so?

I like your crack down on multiple accounts but you might get people saying "that's my sister/brother" but how can you proof it?

That person would be banned for 8 days for admitting multiple registration of accounts.

Correct :P

We discussed what the punishments should be, so yeah, with the approval of the majority of the committee and jitspoe we came up with these rules

Are the ban periods calculated by number of additional accounts? For example, if someone has 4 accounts, which means 3 duplicate accounts, and he/she admitted to them, will the ban period be 3x8=24 days or just 8 days? Might want to specify that on the 1st post.

If the account was never used, probably.  Otherwise one may be suspended or I may attempt to merge the accounts together.

Currently the bans are not based on the number of accounts, but that might be something to consider.  We might handle it like the bans - if you get banned once, then create another account, the ban time doubles.

Also, in the "admitted use" case, players have to come clean BEFORE the multiple accounts are discovered.  There are about 20 accounts already being looked into with bans pending, so if you have one of those, you won't be entitled to the ban time reduction.
