I'm not a huge fan of digital photography in general, but I've taken the plunge and bought a Canon 1000D to play with (only an entry level DSLR, but it's about as much as I'm willing to spend). I decided that it was worth it as Canon EOS to Pentax M42 screw mount adapters are pretty cheap, so I can use my old lenses on the 1000D without too much hassle, and get all the fun of 40 year old manual focus lenses.

By the by, this is actually a good strategy for people looking to save some money on lenses - good quality older lenses might actually have superior optics and build quality than a comparable modern lens (due to the lower range modern lenses using some plastic elements, etc...). So if you can pick up a decent old M42 mount lens for like £50 and a £5 adapter, you might even get better results than getting a £150 modern lens. Obviously you're sacrificing electronics and AF, most likely.

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures I took wandering through my local park on a freezing november morning (yesterday):

I have to ask:

What kind of cattle is that? Long hair cows don't grow around these parts.

Looks like your focus was off on the first two photos. But the colors look real good.

I think the first one is ok:

but you're right about the second one. I'm still getting to grips with the AF, I'm really not used to it.

What are those in pic #2?
Your last pic looks like a profile shot of my colt.

@ pic #2 - I'm going to guess at them being beach huts, which are fairly common in UK seaside towns.

I think this was taken on the Isle of Wight.

Oh wow. Nice guess, spot on. To be more precise, Sandown.

The bottom three are taken from the Isle of Wight, the top one was taken in the Emirates Stadium. Pretty comfortable chairs considernig there are 60,000 or so of them.

Anyway, I should be able to find some better ones. Also, the beach huts all had punny names on them, I'll type those up.

Anyone interested in buying a Canon lens for a DSLR? It's a 75-300mm 4/5.6.

$100 + shipping. I figure shipping would be in the ballpark of -$20. UPS has always given me good rates. PM me for more info, if you'd like.

$100? If its the Canon EF Zoom Lens - 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, that goes for £390 delivered (USD 596 at current exchange rate) brand new.

I wonder how much shipping would be to the UK?

It's not the IS version, unfortunately. If it was, it'd be higher priced. Lolz.

I can't remember what my other lens is exactly.  I might already have one like that.  I'll have to check when I get home.
