And if I really wanted to get fancy I can always do a chop on sections of my images and tweak the individual layers to even things out, or make areas stand out dramatically. But that takes a lot of time.

That's more or less what the "HDR" software does.  Without a lot of manual tweaking, a lot of scenes look really bad.  There are big halos around dark objects where they transition into brighter areas (take a look at that golden gate bridge photo, for example), and the contrast goes out the window.

I like that last one the best, but you sure are getting some flare off of the lens.  Is it clean? ( I am serious - looks like some dirt on it )
How about a before and after on teh last one coLa.

Those look very nice- could use a bit more tweaking, though. What happened to the third one? A lot of the color is just gone. O_o

yah i know they need some work. i had little time when i edited them. i tried to tone down the saturation on the 3rd one because the sign was hard to read. guess i went too much.

Your pictures are very detailed.  Almost too detail as they look odd to me because most of the pictures I have seen aren't anything like yours.

I want a camera now...

for that water drop one you need a faster shutter speed so you don't get the blur. Depending on the type of camera there is open source camera firmware that can change it beyond what the camera normally allows.

I found this in an old folder. I can't even remember where I took this. Still a lot of grain but I just thought the clouds and jet streams were cool

Took these a couple hours ago.
