you can see the other 5-6 here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/hondarn1320/sets/72157605988287973/

not happy with how they came out at all. we parked too far out. my lens couldn't give me the right amount of zoom i needed at this location. tried my best, and came up empty handed. meh.

Here's my 4th attempt at fireworks.
I just set my cam to manual, set the fstop to f22, and shutter to 1 second. Only had my monopod so there's a bit of shake noticable in some of the pics.

Really old pic with my first digital camera, but I haven't photographed fireworks recently.

OT:

The city of Houston's fireworks were so large that the smoke showed up on radar during the weather last night.

i've shot fireworks a few times.
I really wasn't even excited about shooting them this year because i'm so psyched on getting my Canon 40D that I don't even want to shoot the XTI anymore.

I used my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for this shoot as I was fairly close.

What I found works best is...
1) tripod is a must or your firework trails look like swimming sperm.
2) shoot in manual (M) mode so you control both fstop and shutter
3) lowest ISO you got (ISO100 for me)
4) low fstop (high number). somewhere between f11 and f22 seems right depending on shutter speed.
5) low shutter speed. 1/2 to 1 second seems good. the longer the shutter, the longer the trails, the higher the fstop (lower number).
6) manual focus. I set mine to infinity for this shoot, but when I changed zoom it blurred some of the images out. manually focusing on a few fireworks should get you sharp.

fantastic photo s8n!

If only we had such dramatic wildlife in the grim UK north...

note: there's lots of cool wildlife here, but photographing most of it means sitting in a plastic mac in a hut in the woods for an entire day, and frankly I'm just not that dedicated.

coLa,

I like what you've done to the pics, but I don't know... something isn't right. Maybe the framing of the content is bothering me?
