Verbal Abuse
« on: August 13, 2007, 07:55:12 PM »
How do you think instances of verbal abuse (or, more accurately, textual abuse) in the game should be handled?

People should send screenshots or logs and the people doing the abusing should get maybe a warning? Then a temporary ban. After each offense the ban time would get longer and longer.

Why no cookies :(

Anyway, I think they should be defined by the server owners.

Not to put your idea down but this is a bad idea. The problem with it is that if everyone who is verbally abused, whether it is for real or just someone playing around, would send a log to jitspoe here on dplogin.com, the site would probably be closed within a few hours (over exaggerated a bit).

I will not lie, I know that today alone I have probably abused at least 10 people if not more.  So if everyone reports people that verbally abuse them jitspoe would be spammed with PMs or whatever of people reporting other people, and that could lead to higher bandwidth usage which could lead to bandwidth overage and we could be shut down or jitspoe could have big overage fees to worry about.

If I am way off track about any of this please correct me. It seems like this is how it would work though.

Client-side swear filter to block out what people don't want to hear, and an optional server-side warning/kick/tempban system for server admins wanting to make sure their server stays clean.

swear filter...

That in combination of the players/admins reporting instances (backed up by logs). This would be another good use for the committee. ;)

I wouldn't trust the players to report actual instances. :P

I like Eiii's idea better. I dont see why there should be some sort of punishment decided by jitspoe, or a committe, if there should be a punishment, it should be from a server admin.

I like that idea...but some server admins just open their server and go to others...so if there was a screenshot for that offence I think the server admin should get a message or something like that....and have the screenshot in the message.

Just use a swear filter. Who cares if people curse.

And what is the reason you do this for?  Don't you feel it reflects poorly on the community to any new players who might be testing the game out?  Or to existing players, for that matter.

The logs would come from the admins though, so players cannot give out false accusations and get away with it.

Why would they bring logs about people swearing?
Its not like your global ban them from that, are you?

I'd like to do some research on how much verbal abuse there is, and what people consider verbal abuse.

client side swear fliter.

There should be 2 ways to set it, one way being ***** or like #$%& to be the bad word, and another being any comment made the whole text doesn't show.

ex: you *****   or the person just not seeing anything including "you"
