Title: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: maxpower on May 17, 2007, 07:22:59 PM
I'm using the paintball engine for a game Im making based off action quake 2, called Crimson Elite . If someone gets a chance can they help setup the serverlist, cause i dont want any servers showing up in the dpball serverlist, and when i goto Play>>>Start New Game, the map selection is messed up.

As you can see i have to update the skins. I removed most of the items in the HUD

you mean socom for ps2? Yea, i guessed i should change it. how about Navy Seals? if anyone has any ideas, I would like to hear them, as you can see its going to be a military shooter. Jitspoe, would it be possible to get my hands on the code for gamemodes and entities.

Sounds like memory is getting corrupted or overwritten somewhere.  What all have you changed?  Just the media?  You migth have a corrupt file somewhere.  It looks like you're using pcx files from action quake 2.  Maybe re-save them as jpeg's.

I'll give it a shot. What about this?

That's fixed in build 18.

You should check out the Quake 2 Evolved engine, it has some pretty neat stuff like dpball has. I'm using it to play Spook's dpball demos and make videos of them since the game looks a bit better in it.  =P
Title: Re: SOCOM: using paintball engine
Post by: maxpower on May 17, 2007, 10:12:14 PM
That's fixed in build 18.
Is the source released for 18? or will it be? or can you email the code to fix it. By the way, the jpeg thing fixed the debug error. Thanks.

Jits, how can i fix the skins? I got wally, how would i fix the coloring?
Title: Re: SOCOM: using paintball engine
Post by: jitspoe on May 18, 2007, 02:05:40 PM
I had the source posted on sourceforge but not on the files page.  There should be a link on the files page now.

As for the skins, just stay away from paletted files.  Just use jpeg or tga.  There's no reason to use pcx anymore.
Title: Re: SOCOM: using paintball engine
Post by: maxpower on May 18, 2007, 04:39:38 PM
What file fixed the bug? i dont want to use build 18 right now, otherwise i have to setup a login system for it and I dont have all the resources for it right now.

For the hud, it doesn't draw it if the value of it is 0. Is there some code that code fix this? As you can see Jits, the jpg didnt fix the skin problem. I deleted the pcx file for it so it didnt load it.

cl_hudstyle 0.

As for the skin problem, you're using the wrong palette.  You should probably make your own media anyway, instead of taking it from other Quake2 mods.

To Do:

The directory name is defined on qcommon/qcommon.h
Code: [Select]
#define BASEDIRNAME "pball"All you need to do is change BASEDIRNAME to elite.
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: maxpower on May 19, 2007, 04:00:00 PM
i did this, but its checking the build number somewhere. so i changed it to 18 for now and it works.
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: Cobo on May 19, 2007, 04:13:14 PM
Oh, sorry. You'll want to change on qcommon/files this:
Code: [Select]
Cvar_FullSet("gamedir", "pball", CVAR_SERVERINFO|CVAR_NOSET, true); // jit, always display gamedir as "pball"
Cvar_FullSet("game", "pball", CVAR_LATCH|CVAR_SERVERINFO, true); // jit
instead of pball, make that elite.

Hey maxpower is this game going to be paintball or just a regular shooter with bullets?
Edit:I think the new skins are pretty cool good job.

Post by: maxpower on May 19, 2007, 10:34:21 PM
Its a shooter with bullets. Its not paintball at all. Im just using the engine.

Edit
Jitspoe, i fixed the start new game menu :D
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine

Are you just modifing the client and using the DP2 gamex86 dll? or are you using another mod's gamex86 dll? because if you're using DP2's you wont be able to modify it too much, since the source for it is not open.

Its a shooter with bullets. Its not paintball at all. Im just using the engine.

Something is messed up with the hud. i dont know if its the engine source (cl_scores.c) messing it up or the game source (p_hud.c)
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: Cobo on May 20, 2007, 03:07:03 AM
That happens to me when using a quake2 gamex86, but I think it only happened when showing the scores.

Thats what i meant, is there anyway to fix it?

I was looking at the ejecting brass code, and It wasnt to good in the game so after some coding and remodeling. I got it looking alot better.

I got my other computer setup, and my bro and me tested it out. Its pretty sweet.

Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: jitspoe on May 21, 2007, 02:10:39 PM
If you're using your own gamex86 dll, then it shouldn't be doing the version check.
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: maxpower on May 21, 2007, 02:15:31 PM
I fixed that problem. But the deathmatch scoreboard and vwep is still messed up.
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: jitspoe on May 21, 2007, 02:24:21 PM
The DM scoreboard has to do with the hud scaling.  That particular scoreboard layout positions each letter instead of using strings, but the positions don't take into account the hud scale, so they end up getting scrunched together.  cl_hudscale 1 will "fix" it, but it will make your font and hud icons really tiny.  It sohuld be possible to account for it in the code, too.  Maybe somewhere around the DrawChar functions or something with the configstring parsing.
Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine
Post by: maxpower on May 21, 2007, 02:27:55 PM
cl_hudscale 1, "fixed" it. Anyway to do the scale to just the scoreboard?

Yeah it does.
Your game is looking good, I hope you can manage to make it legally redistributable. Right now it's kinda reminding me of Action Quake, but that's not that bad of a thing, even if it's not that original it's still a great game idea that works well.

Title: Re: Crimson Elite: using paintball engine

Nice, these features are goo. Most of these are why I suggested that you use something like the Quake 2 Evolved project or the latest icculus quake2 for this project of yours, so you don't need to do as much work to get it into a realistic shooter, dpball is paintball  =P

And I think that bbox doesn't fit the model well, he's gonna knock his head off or wallhax through that tunnel.

You also may consider getting a free forum of your own to post this stuff on, some people are here just for the paintball and might be hating on your project.

Haha that entire thread is funny, especially where Darkness says:
How is he going to make a video game if he can't find a menu?

Crimson's come along pretty far, I'd say so.

Torrents

Kilo, not evey answer to getting software is torrents...
Using torrents would be pointless since he obviously has the cd's, and if he didnt he could just use the express edition. free, and compiles quake engines just fine.

I got visual c++ reinstalled. And i cleaned the game folder up. got rid of all the paintball models etc. and maps and textures. Going to need some beta testers, and someone to make a few maps. I also had an idea for making a VIP gamemode, but i would need some help with coding, if you want to help in any of these fields, pm me your email addy, aim sn, or msn.

I also need some help building the gamex86 for linux, i have a computer with linux on it, i can compile the engine and dedicated.
EDITED
I got everything to compile on linux, thanks to my bro.
