I'm pretty busy at the moment (obviously), so all you're getting is a win32 zip for now: http://dplogin.com/files/clients/windows/paintball2_build020_update_pretest2.zip
Test server is up at dplogin.com:27930 - easiest way to test is by deleting whatever map is on and connecting. I was getting 500k/s+ download speeds.

great. I copied the new files over the build19-installation (copied my installation without textures, maps and demos), and all I get is "modified content detected". I'll try your build now anyways... :/

eidt2: same terrible ping with both versions, but when I join the server with b19, I get a message "unknown command: svextensions"

Yeah I'm afraid to play right now because after i extracted over build 19 I get a Modified Content Detected message after login.
Haha I'm not playing until someone narrows this problem down to a deletable file. =]

I think I found a possible bug. Since I updated I can't use the serverbrowser. It comes up and I can see the servers and who is in them but I can't double click to join and it doesn't recognize what maps I already have.

U renamed the folder? Maybe "Paintball 2 (Build 19)" to "Paintball 2 (Build 20)" ?
Than u must update the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Digital Paint\Paintball2

Took me 3 seconds to get the whole map. ;D w00t!!!! but, uh, what else was changed in Build 20 besides the download speed. Also, since you are pretesting build 20, does this mean the full build 20 is coming out soon??

Just faster download speed.
And yes it probably does unless someone comes up with an error that will make him have to rewrite it he should release full soon.

From what I understand, the server was considering downloads as just a regular player on the server. Therefore only uploading ~3 K/s.

Since jits updated the first post with the new .zip, yes you can.

Yeah, you can play on any server with it (but it won't have the fast downloads on old servers). I've updated all the EV1 servers to the new build and took down the test server. I've got stuff going on this weekend, so I don't know when I'll have a chance to put an installer together/make an official release, but unless somebody finds a major flaw, it will be the same as what's in the zip.
Not a lot has changed. View the readme for details. Fast downloads were the focus of this build. As for why the downloads were so slow, I believe that was discussed in the fast download implementation thread. In short, the server runs at 10hz and sends 1k blocks. It also waits for an ack on each packet, so effectively 10k/s is the best case, with more typical speeds of 5k/s.

No, and you shouldn't be getting a modified content warning. You just copied 'paintball2' from the zip, and pasted in c:/games?

I downloaded the build 20 of the link jitspoe gave us.
Then i extracted it with winrar
and i coppied the extracted folder to my pb2 folder how can i install the build 20 now?

The best thing I can tell you to do is delete everything from the pb2 folder and all the extracted stuff.
Then just extract the .zip file to whatever directory you paintball 2 folder is in.

Well, if he does that he loses everything and get the modified content warning. Say the Paintball 2 folder is located at c:/games/Paintball 2. extract the zip file into c:/games and then say yes to all to the new stuff. This will give u a perfect b20 without the modified content warning.

If you now have a paintball 2 folder inside paintball 2 i suggest deleting the paintball2 folder inside paintball 2 and re un-zipping it in the manner i stated above. If you already did it in the manner stated above than you already have B20 installed.

This makes me happy. jitspoe was given a ton of grief and criticism when he discussed his faster download implementation ideas on the quakesrc forum (that forum is home to practically all coders working on the GPL'd Quake engines). It looks like this is turning out to be a huge success and is an accomplishment that we should feel proud of, as a community.

I remember Quake downloads just as slow so this is so refreshing. I was able to download at around 550 k/s so I am very happy. Thanks Jits :)

my quick solution... go into your paintball2 folder and pull out the textures, maps, config, etc folders you need onto desktop... then delete the paintball2 folders.... after install a fresh new version of build20... then put those folders you pulled to desktop back into the paintball2 et voila!
btw, the 600kb/s download speed... awesome :) too bad it only works with build 20 servers. i connected to a build 19 server and didn't see the download speed indicator... oops :P

It runs a MD5 checksum, and if it fails, re-downloads the file.

You're not supposed to use those anyway. They're there as samples. If you follow the tutorial for setting up a server, it suggests you copy the config file to "myserver.cfg".

I have no idea what "pthreadVC.dll" is but I'm guessing a fix is:
- Search on web for the file, pthreadVC.dll
- Download to your windows system folder, possibly C:\Windows\system32\ or C:\Windows\system\
- Don't spaz when no one answers you within a precise 5min period

What he means here is use the modify button in the top right.
However, DO NOT download pthreadVC.dll, this file comes with Paintball 2, unless you compiled from source. Downloading it from another site might constitute modified content. (I doubt it since it's not OS as far as I know, so probably same filesize)
Furthermore, you are likely getting this because you did not install the full version, you probably installed the update only.
To remedy this no matter what, completely re-install by downloading and running this installer: http://dplogin.com/files/clients/windows/paintball2_build020_full_pretest1.exe

Found some bugs. There are some textures that are the wrong scale. This is in the last update (i think). Also, the ingame serverbrowser doesn't work (that might be do to some config issues though).

Yer my serverbrowser works, but when i had b19 i was able to double click a server to start pb2 connecting to it. Also it use to be able to read what maps i have, now all the maps are red(Meaning I don't have them). All i can do is view who is the server and what ping/server it is. O and maps. Is this a problem caused by the new b20 update or something that i may of done?

Nope. The texture in the first shot (adoor03_4.jpg) is 64x64 in "\pball\textures\pball" and 256x256 in "\pball\textures\pball\hr4".

I also just started getting the modified content error today. I'm gonna get a fresh textures folder to see if that fixes it.

yeah, for the 2nd pic the barrel texture is w_brl1.jpg with the top of w_brt1.jpg -- as far as i know, there is not a 256x256 version of this, although there is for red/yellow/purple/blue/white2-3 . . . go figure

I have the same problem and I know that I did everything right. Strange thing is though, it works right on my Vista partition but not on my XP partition.

oh and you might be interested to know that after putting up all those install files at the beginning of this month, my bandwidth usage went from just under 200MB/month to just over 7GB for this month ... and the month's not over yet :)

The new gun sounds are horrible! Well some of the guns are anyway.
Also when I set my sound to 48 khz the sound goes all tinny. At 44 its fine. (This has always been the case for me.)

Lekky, the sound is the same for me, best at 44, because at 48 it really goes all weird and lazerish and tingly, and strange.
Either way I am glad B20 was officially released!

The sound of the sounds is like an empty tin can for me. But i have the old sounds and the old start8.wav, so no problem.

Yeah, thats mainly it, they are much louder than the old ones, and its harder to hear the opponent because of it. Some of them reaaly do sound like empty tin cans, and was a bit of a shock, i suppose i could get used to it tho.
Also, for those who say the 48khz sounds bad - is it just the old sounds, or do the new gun sounds sound bad, too?
Thats always been the case for me since b16. And the new sounds are the same. It sounds really tinny and squeeky, not just the guns but all noises.

Sound Mixahead is set to 0.2. That have anything to do with it?

Lekky, you have the same checked/unchecked things as me. I am assuming all the sounds are supposed to be the weird "laserish" sounds, and are just to sharp with 48khz quality.

Have you tried installing OpenAL and using the 3d audio? What soundcard do you have? Have you tried excluding external sounds (I think that's what I renamed the option to)?

eww, 3d sound doesnt sound good for me :D (with the dll) and excluding external sounds makes no noticeable difference. My soundcard is SoundMAX HD Audio O with driver ADIHdAud.sys v. 5.10.0001.4151
