Whoever thinks the dp2 match OR pubscene is active, is stupid. I made a thread listing the active clans, that's how little we have. If I remade that thread, it'd be smaller. Quick list of active american teams: Dj, Meth, vF, 3iob. Euro: kuc, dark, fwe, qehs, eX.
-Most of those teams can only do 2's. Or 3's the odd time. Anyone who thinks that is alot of teams isn't the smartest one out there.
Alot of people used to say: ohhh it always gets inactive then active again. But even older players have been saying this game is dead.
So what can happen to keep it alive? Accounts get made very often, but people don't stay. Some people might pop in a couple times a month on OTB speed. But even superman's pub; really the only american pub, has barely had people in it recently.
How can we retain people into the game? Get them on mIRC? Please suggest, hopefully jitspoe reads this and can help improve the activity.
My suggestions:
- Make a Standard Hr4 pack, which automatically overwrites peoples in the upcoming updates. So when peolpe download the game they see nice textures, but spend time on them so they are actually really nice and realistic.
-Have a little jumping/aiming tutorial option when you download the game, so people understand theres jumping and the balls drop.
-Have a mIRC download with the dplogin download, already configured to Globalgamers. If that's possible.
So, that's just my ideas. I'm sure others have some. But this game is extremely inactive, and unless something is done wont last. Sure tournaments are happening, but it's the same teams joining the tournaments. It's the same players playing. We have 4 NA matchservers, which are never full.
Edit: SnoopDog123: They hacked and got banned. Not exactly who we should be bringing back. Specially the ones who are on their 2nd+ offence. Maybe if it's 1st offence you could have a slight arguement.
Charged: Yeah this game used to be alot more active when I started. It just keeps losing people as they get older, and isn't getting any new people filling spots.
If you're going to reply, post constructive so this thread goes somewhere.
-
i agree, i think that all the people that have been banned should have a 2nd chance. its really hard to find a good 3v3 when everyone that was constantly active is either banned or quit because of the inactivity.
-
when i started playing this game about 2 years ago it was a fun game to play. And now people r becoming inactive, and the there is no one els that is new coming to this game. Witch means there will be no new clans :'(. So i agree on the tutorial, and the nice looking textures being added. And if there are nice new textures that make the game a little more real maybe even people who went inactive will start playing again. :)
-
Maybe it's the poor attitude of people playing this game.

Agreed. I went into a pub under the name 'newbie' for the hell of it the other day while I was talking to Rick, and I would get in the way occasionally, and get absolutely flamed at. I'm not going to say names, but those 2 are a perfect example of what drives new players away. Grow up, all of you. If your attitude remains excrement, you make this community excrement. I hope you know that.

I try to be nice to the newbies if that helps at all. :] *thinks about playing more*

Just this is driving new players away from this game. When i played a scrim with my friend, it was his first one and he failed miserably, our opponents just spammed: Lol your mate is a noob. Really mature :]

I agree with the auto-hr4-textures download and with the jumping tutorial - this tutorial is also used in quakelive, and boom, look how many people do play this, even when it's so fking old game (Q3A - 10 years old).
It could be also nice to make an ingame dplogin registration, cause when I started to play it was really annoying that I couldn't join nearly any server.. It would be nice make this game more "comfortable" if you know what I mean.
About the bans.. Well maybe when it was first offence they could get some new chance..
-
Warsow has also some tutorial for bunnyhopping etc. Maybe it could be done like in warsow?
@abnormal, wasn't there some talking about the in-game registration? I'll try to find the thread.

My suggestion is to standardise pubs - make some for newbies ONLY, and some for more experienced players. Nothing drives me away as much as having 3 newbies in team on propaint1 - it is really no fun to watch them get lost in low. If there were pubs where only newbies can play, with maps for newbies (that is small and easy, say indune or ub_cliff) and 30s rev time, they could have more chance to actually play. Furthermore, more experienced players wouldn't have to be bothered by the fact they are being blocked, for example.
Tutorial would be great to have. But not about how to bunnyhop or strafe - about how to play. Things like 'throw grenade by pressing G key', 'don't smoke your own base for no reason' or 'remember that flag is worth more than your miserable life' is what I propose to teach newbies how to play. As a community, we could do something like dpvid (old Vic's idea, was pita for him to get through all the demos) to show new players how dynamic and intense this game can be if you move around.
-
Nice idea x')
-
good idea, if u dont want dead game u should do it ;)
-
I propose jumping tutorial based on flash movie, there will be shown jumps on some maps(pp1, airtime, shzms, shock, pbcups, most played) and some tricks how do that, example: arrow left + space + arrow up + mouse turn or idk how..what ever... 2nd tip, some1 could make jump-map on tests jumping ability - 10lvl - easy -> hard - + each level will have own flash video "know how" .. And this map will be in "playing tutorial" ..
-

Also, having a tutorial, make it an option on the start up screen. People may of had to redownload the game, and then they might be forced to use the tutorial. Even when they know how...
It could be on the main menu "PLAY, SETUP, TUTORIAL, QUIT" Then when they click on a tutorial, sub-tutorials appear and once selected, a demo is played. Also, giving them a chance to do it themself... What about when they click Tutorial they go to a private tutorial server setup... Could be a nice idea... (allow_tutorial 1) ??
-
Gamabunta: I was thinking if my team gets our servers up, we could make a server kinda like what syncmasters cable was. That server just played ub_cliff non-stop 5 second revive. That server was the only reason I kept playing. Then I started joining 'pub team' and spamming for matches in pubs. But that server was the reason this game was fun. So we'd have an american speed, but only if our servers work.
Keep the idea's. Please don't post: Good ideas! and stuff like that. Actually post an arguement or an idea.
Cameron: Every game has its retards, just this game is soo small you see our retards on a daily basis :) But you wont get that to stop, although it's only certain players who do it nonstop in pubs. But anyways, I bet most people would say the same names about who needs to grow up. That's just one area that can't be changed by us or jitspoe.
So all we can do is argue and say ideas. Some of which very good and helpfull. We just need Jitspoe to see this and do something about it. And by do something I don't mean a feature vote on one way to get players, the game will be dead by the time a feature vote happens.
-
mIRC is not IRC !!! I hate this program and i don't want download it with a new client. There are enough other IRC clients, so everyone should use the one which he prefers.
Btn: I don't think, that it will be more active ingame, if we have 500 idle players in IRC... IRC becomes overrated.
This (http://dplogin.com/dplogin/featurevote/feature.php?id=10186) could bring us a little information, what the game needs. U play the game, so u think completely different than other players which leave.
@ all:
...if u dont want dead game u should do it
Yes ! Do it and don't wait until someone else will make it. There are so many players who want something new into the game, but only 2-3 people who make it. Sometimes.
-
T3RR0R15T: If they get on IRC then, or whatever client for it then it's easier for people to help them out. It can help newer players get into the clanscene faster. We have on average 20-30 people in top idled channels.
I tried to bring in new players, I got about 5 URT players to try paintball; but they left after seeing the textures.
Theres nothing some players can do to help this game. We don't want something new, we just don't want the game dead. Our way of helping is suggesting ideas on how to improve the game. We're just players in the game, trying to offer up suggestions that could be done to make it more active. I'm sure people could make a tutorial, but in the end would it get used? Why spend time on it for jitspoe to say no? That's why we're throwing out ideas and hoping jitspoe see's them. Then I'm sure once we know what is usefull people would help do them.
Question: The thread about the interpolated hitboxes... Why was that a feature vote? Wouldn't that just be a way to upgrade the game? Making the hitboxes normal so people don't have paintballs going threw them? I've never noticed a feature vote actually happen since I started. Although I'm a newer player, just pointing that out. Looking at the feature vote page, I see one thats: 222 votes for, and 9 against. Yet it's still a feature vote? But that's another note, I just find that if interpolated hitboxes makes it so people can't sit in lines then it's improving the game and should be done instantly and not voted upon. I could be missing something so correct it if i'm wrong.
-

same problem
we need more languages in forum or in dplogin, becouse 90% new players are very young and they dont know english or german. So I think we have to do tutorials in the most used languages in game and its English, German, French, Czech and Polish

Are you really sure that nowadays are people who can't understand English? - You don't need some advanced level of english to register and activate your account..

yes Im sure, and its not about reg account but about tutorial :) they will stay newbies and they will stop with game
-
Abnormal, I must agree with Santander. Have a little icon where you can change your language. But only make 3-5.. English, French, German, Czech and Portuguese?
-
how about writing them in different languages and make some flags at the top of the page to choose

To draw new players, it might help if a lot of the work in build 28/29/30 was consolidation:
1. Making the login system easier to understand for new players
2. Getting rid of the strange video crash bugs and fps anomalies that seem unique to paintball
3. Improvements to the UI and out-of-box experience (including a full hr4 texture set, maybe translations)
4. Culling some old rendering paths for out of date hardware and instead improving performance and stability on modern hardware.
Then, hopefully more players would be drawn and kept, and other features like ranking systems and clan-tags on shirts could be added.
A thought on the login system: if a new user was prompted by a menu with the option "just play" right from the start, and could dropped into one of a set of non-global login servers for beginners, then maybe they could later be tempted into registering for GLS with the added benefits of the other servers and name protection? This way, there are fewer people who download the game, find out they need an account and just give up - it allows for try-before-you-buy in effect.

ViciouZ's idea = winwinwinwinwinwinwin.
I understand this all is probably a lot for Jitspoe to handle alone however, I'm curious as to why he doesn't have people help him. I know people like Zorch and ViciouZ contribute a great deal to the game, but I'm sure there are probably parts of it they cannot change. I also don't know who would be willing to contribute a chunk of their time to the game to improve it's performance, so it may be useless in the long run.
-
Rewind, alot of people would help but it's who knows how to do alot of the stuff needed to help, aswell as who he trusts to help him.
-
Let It Die.
-
I agree with Rick and Cameron Attitude. I struggle to go through a match without LMFAO FLUKE ROFL UR BAD. Silly.
-
Pretty much anyone that has photoshop could help making textures; maybe even make a thread where the community could submit textures they have made and be critiqued on them.
-
Yea guys we really need to find a way to create popularity for the game.
We need to find a way to advertise that the games free and that our community is growing.
-

slovak ;) jopez made one http://www.five-points.yw.sk/?page=downloads (http://www.five-points.yw.sk/?page=downloads)
he can update it ;)

and make GameFace like in FIFA 10 ;) ;) ;) :P :-* :-*

This game isn't as dead as people say it is... Got a great 4v4 on my first day back.

You left out a few items:
1. remove backward compatibility.
2. Have officially sanctioned map map.
3. Have officially sanctioned server configs.
The problem here is, threads like this get started almost every year and nothing happens.
-
Yeah, but see... people are offering to help. It's now up to jitspoe to accept the help if he wants things done. I talked to a few people who know how to code and stuff. He just needs to allow people to help him or let the game keep slowly getting inactive till it finally dies.
Although I was just told 'about this thread and why jitspoe hasn't comeinto it ' This game does not serv any commercial purpose and i'm sure he will be glad when it dies. All it's done is taken a bunch of his time for 11 years.
-Which is something which can be argued. So my question is: Is it worth trying to keep the game alive? Or are you just going to wait it out till it dies.
BTW- A small thought: What if you 'allowed' people to pay their bans off then take the money they pay you and use it to buy add space? I know you don't want to unban people, but you get money and it's one way of advertising.
-
In my personal opinion the bans killed the game hardcore, a lot of very active players who brought a lot of players into the game have been banned and taken their friends to other games.
Instead of banning people, better hack protection should be worked out so that there isn't so many problems.
Or force players to bring forth the hack by permanently banning them until it is given to jitspoe so he can deal with it making it instantly detectable.
I know this is possible because I play many quake mod type games and this is the only game that I've ever played that has so many people banned for such long periods of time.
Perhaps having server admins ban hackers on site?
I know most don't care for my opinion but it is a valid point to think about.
Again a big factor in this is how bad the graphics are for DP... The new models look worse than the old in my opinion and I know others agree with me.
Another thing is that there are A LOT of players who have horrible attitudes and instead of helping new players and teaching people who aren't as good as them, they talk down to them and it makes them quit.
I'd like to think of a way to bring in new players to the game, I really do like the idea of tutorials. I think that with help a tremendous amount in recovering the games once active state.
-
Mayhem's right. The bans get rid of more people than just those banned. Im not exactly sure how to eliminate the problem, but better hack protection is a start.
I think part of the problem is the game is just becoming outdated. It isnt the same as it was in 2000 because games in 2000 looked and played like this.
-
lmao..
banning people is killing the game, so get better hack protection...
lmfao.
brilliant.
hahahahahahahah
-
lol.
---------------
I've heard that official server settings are coming with next build. Now that viciouz mentioned official new textures, then I believe some changes are coming in that direction as well. I think that official maplist is a bad idea, rather have a few 'learning'/'tutorial' maps come with the game.
-------------
I also think that this game will not die. Atleast in the near future. This kind of threads are usualyl started by people, who have been around for some time, but then they lose the 'new' factor and think that everything is bad.
'new' factor - c'mon this game offers excrementload of maps, and i remember that when i first started it was fun as fuqk to explore new maps. Also, when you match the same people day after die, then it becomes old too.
Its like marriage, first its good, then it sucks, but in the end you die together on a boat.
-
Just again about the tutorials - I think that there could be some map/maps which would be in the basic mappack and there'd also could be a demo file, which would demonstrate jumps on this map. - It's the same as in Quake Live.
But many newbies might not find that demo file, or open it, so there could be some hints for newbies when opening DP2..
-
Like i said, it could be done like in Warsow, so you have "Tutorials" button in Menu. You click it and you get few tutorials, like Moving around, Gameplay etc.
-
Now all we need is people willing to submit tutorials... Perhaps you could include some commentary to it? In a variety of languages...
I think this will lead to some extreme complications, and it will be very difficult to get this up and running.
-
I think getting paintball onto the mac os might help, but again you can argue, is it worth the time?
-
Maybe add key strokes to the tutorial. (May of used the wrong word :S). By key strokes, I mean the keys that are pressed are showed on the screen.
-
we can start with official match rules
-
pfft, in order to keep people matching, we need people to actually register, create a clan.. Then you can start worrying about match rules.

back to topic:
i think im gonna actually do something here (instead of just building towns with words) and start working on this tutorial.
What i was thinking:
Simple demo explaining what different types of binds do (drop gun, reload gas, jump, shoot, etc), then continue with explaining how 'fast moving/jumping' works. Then move on to circle jumping example or something. I know nothing about video editing but I guess adding subtitles is possible (lol)...
I find the trickiest part being porting .dm2 to .avi so it can be edited.
Tutorial demo can be either 1 longer clip or be number of smaller clips.

made this suggestion some time ago too. everyone said it would be senseless cause u cant enforce them. but still, if there will be some match rules someday i'd love to help writing them :p

Good idea blaa, I was thinking about something simliar too. I just wanted to make some jumpmap with explanation of all types of jumping and then to make a video of it. Anyway I think that Skyline made a nice video of showing jumps. It's on youtube I think.
I also think that what you've written is very imortant as well.. not just jumps. I see many players are so annoyed when they're co2 goes out. It might be helpful to make some tutorial of these things and than to put it on youtube and also put some link to the index dplogin.com site.

Get a representative from each *active, matching* clan, and discuss rules with them. I think just having 2-3 people make rules will become very biased, and people won't actually follow them.

and you really think you can get em to discuss together at the same time or is it just another text for your postcount?

Lmfao, this is one thing that stops the activity of this game. Idiots like you, you always think its a +1 to the postcount, you honestly have no idea. I'm posing constructive comments and now your nailing me back down. I'm submitting my ideas, which is what the forum is about.
It's no wonder people aren't playing this game when the games community are such excretory openings.
On topic: Create a sub-forum somewhere, off-limits to general members of the community, where the representatives can discuss the rules.
-
yes idiots like me who take their time to play the game not to create comments on every thread they find. it s getting annyoing to see every thread with half-constructive/useless posts from you..
did you think about the different time-zones in your post?
"On topic: Create a sub-forum somewhere, off-limits to general members of the community, where the representatives can discuss the rules." that 1 is ways better, congratz:)

+1 for smaller clips.
I've made a little bit for the website a few month ago, but jitspoe don't want it...

getting more than 4 people to set up some rules would make it take ages.
still searching 2 more volunteers :p i also would like to have an american in there too

Because we don't have official hr4 textures. So i think jitspoe will update the screenshots page with build 50+.

Yea but when it will be less, some of other (maybe more then some) might not accept these rules.
And let's be honest - it's useless work now, when it's not punishable. - I think it even can't be. Just on some tourneys or so..
-

I'm down for new match rules.
-
I'd like to help discuss the new match rules. Ive got some good ideas (well, they seem that way to me) that might be worth getting out there.
And I think part of the idea of having a tutorial would be the ability to watch it in dp, having a link to youtube probably wont get much done, saying as most people playing dp wont even go on dplogin.com to register.
-
I'd like to help out set up some standard match rules, if you need more help. I'm active in the matchscene.
Just a thought: Maybe getting rid of 'registering clans etc.' would retain more players? Cause this is one of the few games where you actually have to. Or maybe you can make a clan on dplogin but once it's dead it deletes. If you like the clan then don't let it die, otherwise why should it steal tags from other players.
The standard match rules could be a start in fixing the match scene. Especially the euro/NA tieservers + colour on tiemap.
So far tutorial seems to be the most liked idea, we just need people who can make them. Also standard 'GOOD LOOKING' textures would go a long way in helping retain players as already been said.
-
Keep this in mind:
"Official" match rules (if anyone would ever follow them) should go hand in hand with "Official" match server configs.
You can't have one without the other.
I do applaud the idea and effort, but I believe, as past history has shown, that they will not be followed.
-
Yeah I'm aware that the official match rules go along with official match server configs. The only issue is that whoever owns the servers would have to be talked with for the official rules. They wouldn't follow rules that were made from a few people.
A seperate thread could be made of every player offering ideas [offtopic or Nice idea!! type posts would hopefully get deleted from it] then a group of a few guys [euros and americans] that are active in the matchscene go through each of the ideas and come out with the rules. Although at the start i'm sure people would complain, in a while they would be used to it.
Unfortunately it's been about a week since I started this thread and Jitspoe still hasn't come into it. I know he's a busy man and all, but it'd be nice to have his input of what could be done.
Couple ideas that could be added 'and are most likely in feature vote but will never happen' :
-Whatever you have your name set to on the back of your jersey. Maybe with a number too? OR clan logo type thing?
- A little friendslist or something. It's used in alot of other games, but it minimizes in the bottom left of your screen, or top or something. You click/hover it and it opens showing which if your friends are online/which server. Saves you looking on serverbrowser.
- Accurate serverbrowser [meaning killwise it changes each time you click it]
- Maybe top left /front side of jerseys have like: L if a leader and M if a member
- Maybe add sounds when you get streaks: DOUBLE KILL , type thing. Got the idea from 'hit indicator' thread
- Female player model could be cool. You get to check male or female when making the account.
Now looking at some feature votes that look cool:
- Last player alive can't kill himself. [Mostly towards weezy, most ppl don't do that]
- Kill cam could be cool. [ It already takes a few seconds before you can chasecam. ]
- Interpolated hitboxes. [ So people don't run through every line ]
- Standard hr4 [ Self explanitory. ]
- Improve smoke grenades [ so they actually get used. ]
- Demo Playback [ no1 wants to restart a demo if they pass a point]
- Teams autobalance [ Would be implemented only in pubs ]
I figure it's pointless posting anything in 'Feature vote' as it never gets done. An idea I like [said 2 posts above] When a clan has 0 members in it, it deletes. If it's dead why should it take a tag for another player. If it's some 'old amazing team' then don't let it die. I know theres alot of things I posted, and I do not expect for most of them to occur. They're mostly little things that could help abit. I have a few more ideas that could possibly work, but i'll leave it at this for now. Please post feedback and I 'hope' the more positive feedback this thread has, the more chance of things happening.
-
- Standard hr4 [ Self explanitory. ]
- Demo Playback [ no1 wants to restart a demo if they pass a point]
- Teams autobalance [ Would be implemented only in pubs ]
Very agreeable. What about also adding a return score feature on the scoreboard which keeps track on how many flag returns a players has done.
-

tee hee :p
its what the pros do! Take notes newbs.

It would be cool not just to make a female model, but also some different types of male - female. Not that imporant for the gameplay or so, but looks better when you can choose from more types.
-
It would look better if the current models had strafe jumping animations. Currently it just uses the animation for jump.

I think a scoring for pong-mode goals would be awesome. Just have the last person of the other team to hit it gets a goal, since sometimes the goalie will hit the ball but it'll still go in, and we don't want the goalie to score a goal. So basically you type in 'localstats' and you'll see a section for Pong Goals and perhaps extend the goalie box therefore when the ball is inside that box and the goalie hits it away, you get a Pong Save. For example, the ball is traveling towards the Red Goal and the Red Goalie hits the ball while inside the goalie box.
Good, right?

My first advice is to try to find things that can be improved or created outside of the paintball installer. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to accomplish most of the ideas in this thread without having jitspoe do all of the work.
I'll throw a few out there:
- PB2 Etiquette Guide (expected chat and play behavior for pubs/matches/irc/forums)
- Public Stats Tracker (each pub server easily sets one up, or a global site with data from approved pub servers)
- Match/Scrim/Tournament Site (stats for clans, demo downloads, integrated with IRC services and stats from match servers)
- HR4 Texture Repository (user contributed site for texture uploads, listing of needed HR4s, texture pack releases, a starting point for an approved HR4 pack)
- Map packs (different map packs for all/classic/popular/pong/siege/etc., spotlight for new map releases, add-on packs every few months)
- External cheat detection software (how else can we catch speed/sound/map/model/texture cheats??)
- PB2TV (it should be possible to hack in GTV features into a new .exe, serverdemo and playback control support would be nice here)
- Social site for clans (let each clan have their own profile page, member list, recent matches, unmoderated flame wars)
- News feed (interesting news/drama taken from matches, irc, forums in one place.. updated a couple times daily)
-
I'll throw a few out there:....
Wow, greats ideas. Who made this web? Only jitspoe? Or DP2 has a programming-team etc? Bacause, more futures are really needed but we'are w8ting so much for new builds ..
If any team doesn't exist and jitspoe is alone, i sugges make some team for webs things, for game, for ANTIMULTI(dp2 has it), for forum, for futers, for bugs, for jumps tutorial, for book tutorial, etc ..
Here's surely lots of smart people...

That's why there are committee members, global moderators, and most important...

On this site a long time nothing news. That is the main problem, everything takes so long time... little people(helpers)
-
I can help create the Match/Scrim/Request/Demo and all that website, and I'll be happy to work with f3l1x, and any other people who are good at php. ;)
f3l1x, if you want, we can start doing some of this whenever you have a spare moment. PM me on the forums, and we'll do stuff - that goes for anyone.

Well about that matchetcetcwebsite:
This could be cool with these rules:
The winner of a match would always write a win at this website and then the loser-team could complain about it. For example: "not everyone were from our clan" etc.. And then the judges would look at it and confirm that match or remove from web.
-
Yeah, just like the way Gamebattles work for COD.. This could really be a huge step for the matching scene.. We could also get some tournaments going on there, a little mix and match of the ESL and Gamebattles..
Lets just hope we can do it. ;)
-
About tutorial's format: either .dm2 or .avi, right? dm2 preferable for it's small weight, but you can't add sufficient info (eventually cprints, but cant add pictures, huh?[or save a picture and use it as a crosshair, quite neat]), while avi takes much of space (assuming quality is high enough for people to see what's going on in tut) and I'm positive jits is trying to make the game weigh as little as possible, but at least we could add interesting stuff in avi. What I'd love to see is .dm2 to .avi exporter, so that "planned" tutorials wouldn't have to be recorded in fraps, something similar to AprQ2 feature (which I heard has .dm2 to .avi exporter). Question is, would it be possible to import this feature from AprQ2 to pb2? I don't know much about it.
As for dm2 tutorial, one should record it with standard settings, that is fov 90 and crosshair 1. I might try to do so, but as for now I really have little idea of what to record within dm2 range.
-
Gama, you can add sounds, cprints, pictures, all sorts. Grab keygrip 2 and google some tutorials, you might have to look hard, but they're there somewhere.
-
So basically the best option now is dm2 tutorial with all the stuff added? I'll find some time to record the tutorial, then.

Going along with those ideas, I think it would be cool to set up something like ESEA for when people want to do like 5v5 matches and there's not enough people on to do a clan 5v5 so you get a pug together. So set it up to reserve a server, track the stats of players on that server, and record demos and then post all this information on a web profile for each individual player.

My idea for this would be to create a new site (with its own user registration/login) and allow players to link their dplogin account and GGC IRC account to their login. Players would link their accounts up by connecting to an "activation" server with their unique password to verify the dplogin ID#, and by messaging an IRC bot with their activation string from their auth'd GGC account. Clan/player relationships would be scraped from dplogin.com a few times a day.. or whenever necessary. Clan members would then be able to setup matches and get a private server from either the website or an IRC bot in their clan channel. When a match has finished, the stat logs (and serverdemo?) from the gameserver would be sent to the site and processed for detailed stats.

Scrim and PUG games could be easily tracked on the same site, maybe with their own leaderboards.
Keygrip2 does work for DP demos.. it just needs some special setup and careful operation.
-

Well yeah but i thought it just would have been cool to try and implement something along with that just for pugs that wouldn otify people and record demos for them. Possibly through a small ( or large? not sure how big that would be.) client that you could create a seperate account on and then link it to your dplogin ID.

From what I hear, eR33ts and Supermans servers are both going down within the next month or two. This thread has plenty of ideas that could help retain players and bring more interest to current players; but with the only american match servers and the only used NA pub going down... Plus nothing has truly happened from this thread. It gave people ideas, but Jitspoe hasn't even had the time to come into the thread. If these servers go down, the american clanscene will more then likely be gone unless they get replaced.
Plus, unless jitspoe does most of the options OR allows people to help, none of it will get done. He's not able to get on enough to do much anymore, he really needs to get a small team to work on the game together if he expects it to improve. Or just leave it until it dies. But plenty of ideas are in this thread, only issues is doing something about it, whether jitspoe or others, aswell as advertising once it's done to get the new players hoping to keep. But servers are still the most important to keep the current players :p although not many people wanna spend alot of money over a game that isn't really active.

The way I see it, everything was funded by all the older players. They've slowly been quitting and finding other things to do instead of the game. Although they barely play, they still fund pretty much all the top servers. No one who plays frequently now is willing to put as much time and money into the game like they all did, and that's why its dying, no one's willing to take over. (and they kept it alive without the source code too :P)
-
Who honestly wants to put their own money forward for ungrateful 12 year olds in a free game that is dying?
Not it.
-
I'd like to help discuss the new match rules. Ive got some good ideas (well, they seem that way to me) that might be worth getting out there.
And I think part of the idea of having a tutorial would be the ability to watch it in dp, having a link to youtube probably wont get much done, saying as most people playing dp wont even go on dplogin.com to register.
i'll probably start working out something next week. how big is ur time difference to germany?
-
Just to help you guys. Germany is ahead of the eastern time zone by 6 hours.
-
We've got a channel on IRC registered for a few guys talking about 'official DP match rules' But maybe knack was right, this thread will go nowhere. It's a thread of ideas, most of which only jitspoe can do. He hasn't even been in this thread yet, it seems he only comes on forums to post in 'other stuff'. So is it pointless to try?
-
No, its not pointless to try.
Server admins can force certain settings....
-
Tournaments aren't going to help the activity of DP
If clans wouldn't just completely die then turn into a new clan that is pretty much the exact same but with maybe 1 or 2 different players.
Official clan rules would be a good start as well as a no trash talking policy and I don't mean if the other team trash talks they forfeit or anything of that...
I think a forced tutorial would be nice to help players get into the game but the so-called "Pro's" aren't very helpful or nice to new players.
Better models and textures would help get players into the game... I'm sure there are game forums which we could use to attract new players.
I don't even know how active DP is really considering I can't get into anything...
jitspoe is obviously too busy for this stuff but he isn't the only person who can do anything.
Someone start a post thinking about "Official Match rules" if there isn't already one.
Brain storm ideas of how to network the game out and get more people to play... This isn't exactly a game that people regularly look for...
-
Tournaments wont help the activity of dp?
I would like to prove you wrong! And I am trying.
-
I mean it won't help getting players into the game... It MIGHT bring back some of the older guy's but we really need to work out a way to get new players into the game and have it so they actually know what they are doing...
Instead of asking everyone for help and of course they'll say statements like "I'm hacking that's how!" or "Just play noob"
We need a tutorial OR I was just think of perhaps having a jump map with trigger's that teach you how to do the jump?
Maybe that could be AFTER the tutorial for practice after they watch a video.
-
A lot of newbies are quite resistant to using IRC. Most of them use MSN messenger, facebook and the like. Maybe you could make DP more accessible by being less reliant on IRC?
-
Why stop using IRC when it's worked for so long? It takes up less space and resources than pretty much any mainstream chat client. It allows the community to talk in large groups without having to use party chat crap on messengers. It's also really customizable and you can make bots to keep clan info straight.
Verdict, IRC works well for what DP needs.
-
IRC is outdated...
-
ahahha....
I wonder how this game would be without IRC, since the only clans that can actually get matches without IRC seem to be lawl and eX. If most of the pub clans got on IRC this game would definitely improve it's match scene.
-
There's no alternative to IRC...
-
An ingame lobby/chatroom.
-
An ingame lobby/chatroom.
+slash match request.
Couldn't be that hard to add a lobby chatroom, with a tab on the side for clans to post active match requests, that they can remove once they find a match or don't want one anymore.
-
That would be a nice idea, doubt it would get implemented though.
If that happenned the matching scene would have a huge improvement
+1 T3RR0R15T
-
So if I want to talk with my clanmates or just to my 'e-friends' in other clans, I have to have the game running?
It may be my fault but I don't see that as an improvement of any sort.
-
Is it possible to make this program run on its own, instead of having to be in-game, it would be a standalone program, but you would automatically download it when you get DP?
-
That is the same like now. If an chat client comes with the game or not is not very important. U have to start a second program and u must switch between the game and the chat client. Two bad things for the most players.
-
What about a largely upgraded server browser / chat tool / match tool?
It could intergrate with dplogin clans to do a lot of cool things too.
A server browser with a chat tab, similar to channels in IRC. And also a match tab (and rent server tab), for clans to find matches. It would have a login connecting to dplogin.
Say 2 clans decide to match, someone could go to the 'rent server' tab, and enter the 2 clans planning to match. The program could then alert all the members logged in that their clans are preparing to match. Since its connected to dplogin, it could check when someone chooses to go to the server. If they are in 1 of the 2 clans, it would open DP to the server and set the password of the server automatically if they are in the clan.
It would be a very efficient chatting and matching tool. Well, there's my daydreaming of features for the day.
-
I can test the beta version, if u have it done :)
-
Oh my idea? I haven't been putting anything together on it, I just had that vision of such a program.
As for making it, I have large projects lined up that will take over a month of my time, so no real time to fiddle with it all, if anyone else wants to try it, it shouldn't be too hard to get started. Just getting some resources/references for different parts.
Server browser - ViCiouZ has worked on it (and T3rror1st too right?), and ask to grab their work if they have anything extra.
Chat - For now just embed an IRC client, something better could be made in time, but this is good enough to start people off.
Find a Match - Create request / End Request buttons (with amount of players and clan) with a list view of all the requests.
Rent a Server - Either choices of servers with a simple 'Get Server' button that echo's back the info (like eR33t's on IRC by XBain) or something more detailed like OTB's website. Something like eR33t's would be easier for now. (in the future an option to enter 2 clans, and allowing those clan-members to automatically join through server browser)
DPLogin - integration for 'Rent a Server' and 'Find a Match', can be added later on.
Anyone(s) willing to take on this creation?
-
Couldn't someone just make an IRC addon to do virtually the same thing?
-
I made a tutorial video for the most basic stuff in the game for new players.
