Title: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League
Post by: Bix on May 21, 2009, 07:43:48 PM
PBCup is back and hosted by eR33t.

This is an introduction to what will be happening in the next weeks. I am going to give an outline of the league and how it is going to be hopefully ran . We will be using the PBCup sub-section, although since it hasn't been used in over a year I figured I would start here with the introduction. There are going to be a few changes from how it was ran in the past. Also I would like to note that nothing said here is in stone; therefore, everything has the possibility to change.

~~~Outline~~~
-PBCup Summer 2009 will be in a Four vs. Four format as it has been in the past.
-The league will start in early June.
-We are planning on having FOUR weeks of regular season. This will include roughly seven matches with one bye. Therefore each team will have about two matches a week. After that playoffs will take place.
-The maplist is currently under discussion. We will either have 7, 9, or 11 maps.
~~~Rules~~~

-The two teams competing will choose the time that they want to do their match.

-Each match will consist of 3 maps. One map chosen by your team, one by the other team, and the final will be a tie map that is ALWAYS played.

-You can only choose a map ONCE (this may change) in the regular season.

-The tie map will be chosen in one of two formats (not decided yet).
A. A tie map assigned to each half-week.
B. Each team chooses their map then the maps they DON'T want. See below for example.

Example with 7 maps: You choose 'A', the other team choose 'B'. That leaves 5 maps left, each team then choose two maps they don't want to play for the tie. The fifth map that is left is the tie map.

-There will be some form of a 'ticket' system to prevent clan hopping. For example each player has four tickets. That means they can only change rosters four times throughout the whole season. Rosters will be locked before playoffs start.

-Each map you win will award you with 1 point. For example you can get 3 points in a match if you win all three maps. Regardless of winning the first two maps, the tie map is played.

Hopefully PBCup can make a full comeback and create a stable league in DP. This will need participation from many of the clans in DP. I would also like to note that nothing is set in stone; therefore, everything has the chance to change. Please post all comments, questions, and concerns.

-eR33t Gaming-

EDIT: Euros will be allowed to play, although all matches will be played on eR33t-Gaming servers in the USA.

Sound good. Status Quo should be able to participate.

Some map suggestions: (Not sure if needed)
Pbcup_sassault
Propaint1
Pbcup_pforest
Pbcup_renoir
Carpathian
Castle1
zparr11_beta
Wobluda
Tatras
CCC
Prolandr

Maybe:
OTH
Pbcup_everglades
Propaint2
Propaint3

All i can think of for now, hope it helps and was needed.

Or an own pbcup for euros and an own one for americans?

We have server (eu, germany), if u need them.

The tiemap format A could be interesting, but i like B more :P
I hope there are no beta or ice-speed-jump maps in the maplist.
The 'ticket' system against clan hoppers is a good idea. I think 1-2 tickets are enough.

As of right now I think we are leaning towards no euros. If we allow euros it will probably be ONLY American servers. Then another problem arises, timezones. Although this is subject to change.

The tiemap format A was used in PBCup in the past. The tiemap format is also still up for discussion.

I can say for 100% that there will be no beta maps. I don't see ice-speed-jump maps being on the list either.

i like format a for tie... that way, it's set for each week, no disagreements.

or have a tie map list and teams can only choose from that tie map list.

One beta map might be used as of now, and that would be twiling.  Hopefully it will be completed before the start of this league though.

We have server (eu, germany), if u need them.

i have a tournament fully organised atm that could be used for a euro PBCup and if u have servers for it everything will be linking together perfectly
we need to talk again sometime in OTB Soccer :D:D

i'll post details if u want a euro PBCup

Kyuuchi I don't think you can organise a cup like this tbh. Also, talk about it somewhere else, since this is a thread for the American-only PBCup.

Euros are only called when needed. Pretty fun to see that. :)

Good luck everyone.

What answer did you expected? They symapthy toward other nations is best described in 3iob topic.

Nevertheless it will be great league with 4 teams. GL HF.

Post by: Bix on May 22, 2009, 09:46:31 AM
First off it isn't purely myself running it, eR33t Gaming is running it.

Having euros compete would be a huge problem in the American league. With running two matches a week per team the timezones issue would create many problems. Then the issue of ping comes in.

I am not against the Euros running a full league next to PBCup, but that would need to be talked about.

For those wondering why Euros cant play at the moment...well look at the track record. You guys don't show for our tourneys/leagues after you sign up. For example Kuc signing up for all the sunday tourneys then not showing. Keep running your mouth edgecrusher.

Title: Re: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League

There is no prize.

Euros complicate every aspect of the league. Would rather have four teams that show instead of eight teams and only having four show.
Title: Re: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League
Post by: magalhaes on May 22, 2009, 01:50:24 PM
Bix, it's ok. You don't want to have to play with high pings. We understand that. No need to come up with an excuse like that. QeHs never missed a tourny in which we signed up. Even when we always get er33t in the first round.

If I heard correctly the euro teams in prior pbcups always showed up for their matches. One team even grabbed the second place I think. I bet that was embarrassing.

You guys believe you can run a league without euro teams, you believe you'll have 8 or more american teams. I honestly hope you do, but what I wouldn't like to see would be you, IF you don't get enough teams or if some team dies (you know theres teams dieing every day in the american clan scene) calling the euros so you have clans to play with. You want the euros when you need them. Happens everyday, there's a continuous rant against euros in what is now your channel, but when no american team wants to match you, who do youturn to? Those filthy euros.

Honestly, good luck, I'm sure the american community appreciates your efforts to try and fix the clan scene.

Just did some research. Only clan that looks like they could get four people on would be Kuc, which have the worst track record ever for showing up for American tourneys. What do you want me to say Maga? allow qehs? hardly looks like you have four active members. Allow OTB? doesn't really look like they are active either.

It looks like your boy Kyuuchi can make an Euro tourney. Although I don't believe he has the mental capacity to do it.

Don't try to attack me Maga. If you would actually read my post, I explicitly said everything is subject to change. Stuff is being worked out, the league isn't even starting for about two weeks. All you've done is come in here and whine, that is about all people like you and Viciouz do for this game. Right now I don't believe ONE european clan would last for more than a week. I would like to see proof of that. Finally, please don't come whining about our league when you have capable people (kyuuchi!) that can make an euro league.

Here is our stand point on it.

-First issues make it hard to run a league, especially 10 hour differences. Much easier to keep it to North America.

-Ping issue. With three maps being played someone is going to play on the other team's server twice. Someone will female dog.

[22:14] <[eR33t]bix> !members
[22:14] * [eR33t]bix has left #team_qehs

This 'research' I find funny. QeHs can mobilise when we need it. Not being very active doesn't mean we cannot gather 4+ guys to participate in tourneys.
You missed .oXz. on your list. This clan is pretty good. Also, there still is .cYr. around, of decent clans.
Ping issue? I believe Euros used to match on American servers and they know their delay there. Doubt any bit(#ing about high ping would be heard.

Actually I think there won't be more than 5 clans participating in this, but anyways, good luck.

What about us? Quit complaining about not being able to play, ffs.  The lowest wel ping will be around 200, with a time difference when nearly no-one is playing when we are. So where's our tourney?

I'm not whining. I can assure, if it would come to that, Europe could get 5 or 6 clans. Laugh all you want but when it's needed the European clans show up. And don't give me the kuc example. Please.

I don't want to go any further with this discussion and I'm sorry to stealyour thread. As you said it's easier to organise an only American cup. But it doesn't help the clan scene as much nor does it help the cup itself. Because obviously you will have less teams. It all comes down to this: easier or better? PBCup used to be a different cup, a better cup. I don't think for example that you deserve that sub-forum. It's gonna be a little cup like the 20 we had this last two years. It will not be special like it used to.

I honestly hope this goes well. I'm not whining, I'm making a suggestion and telling you why it would be the best way. You asked for it in your first post.

edit- one last note: don't worry about QeHs. We would have the 4 players and 4 subs if you want.

edit2 (its the last one I promisse)- Ask Xtremebain how surprised he was when a clan called abcdpc  decided to show up for one of his 4v4 cups.

oXz has 6 members, good luck getting 4 on twice a week at oddball hours for them.

Gama...of this list "5 0,1blaa - Criminal - oldie - Lekky - heyneken - Gamabunta - Magalhaes - Gmaster " do you really think you could get 4 people on? I also looked on your DPlogin which contains 7 members. With your CURRENT roster i highly doubt you could get 4 people on twice a week to play.

You seem to be doing a lot of whining. Who are you joking saying Europe could get 5 solid clans, yes I am laughing. No one has any made any effort to make "better cup" than the junk over the past two years. The Europeans have made some pathetic efforts compared to the Americans to establish some sort of league/tourney. Also, this isn't "bix's" tourney. It is pbcup ran by eR33t gaming. Sadly Xbain doesn't have the time to commit. Although, everything posted in my original post was talked about in depth by eR33t members. My final subject which you seem to completely avoid is this Maga. EVERYTHING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. You took what was said as "no" then decided to whine about it. View it the way you want.

bix, you should better think before you write, maybe get some information about the european clan scene. The european clan scene currently seems to be bigger than the US scene at least more vital. 5 competing euro teams are more than probable.
laughing about 5 solid euro clans? tell me just 3 solid us clans.

Quote

thats pure bs. for an example we had 2 good working seasons of a 1 and 2 german paintball league. where were you competing?
srsly bix, what makes you think you have a clue? youre living in the forums flaming every newbie who starts a thread, how do you even find the time to be informed about the european clan scene and tourney history? you dont want to play euros because they would decrase your chance of a win, because you dont want to play high pings, because of the time issues, simply because it would cause more work. Say it how it is, dont use stupid excuses bix. We all know that you dont like people from other nations, as long as you dont want something from them. just as magalhaes said.

I honestly don't want to whine but seriously...

Let me see if I understood this correctly. You guys allow euros, get more teams for your cup but then don't give us a chance to win? I think I speak for every euro clan when I say, What is the point of participating if you can't fight for the win? This shows a complete lack of fair-play/sportmanship from your end. Give us a fair chance, please.

If it is because you don't have european servers, I'm sure Arctic or OTB would be very happy to lend you their servers and put whatever configs you want.

Any group of four can put a team together.

Final word from eR33t-Gaming for hauke. Just so you know pal I'm choosing my words carefully. The PBCup Summer 2009 will be open to all players from around the world, although all matches will be held on servers in the USA. If you don't like this, you can intercourse off and make your own series. Finally Hauke, this isn't me saying "OH excrement I ATE EUROS!" I talked to 5 other members of eR33t and together we made that decision.

I've already told you, don't act like am I am not being candid. Including Euros would require much more work along with much more of a hassle. Timezones and ping issues make this a problem. Thanks hauke, I'm looking forward to seeing your league!

None of the cups could "survive" on its own, neither the euros and the americans could make a cup for themselves.
Due to recent clan hopping, clan dieng none of the clanscenes is capable of supporting its own cup.

As for servers, this is PBCup even though it organised by americans, we should use both euros and americans servers.
Another way to do it, it's to make euros vs euros and americans vs americans, and in the end, make the best of each match eachother.

You say it would cause more work, thats true and i can life with that. just dont write wrong things. Well bix, im looking forward to see your pbcup since i just dont have the time to run a league :/

Use american servers and euro servers. Why cant we all just get along and play and live together in unity.

I dont think americans have enough clans that would show up twice a week either. I like euros better they helped me alot, with the exception of kuc, so let them play in the PBcup.

I thought PBcup was meant for the whole Dp community anyway, not just a select few. I could of swore thats how the last ones was handled.

We would win on US servers too.

Viper doesnn't care about this, all he cares is that Darkness would win.

And I have to agree with atmays, althought this ain't simple, we could do like euro vs american, first map, euro serv, secon american, tie map, since this is organised by er33t, i guess their servers.

I have some questions.

-How do we work tie map if we allowed Euros? Someone would get 2 maps on their server...

-What if a team cant show due to time issues? who do we give the FF to? who gets the points and who doesn't?

This are the main issues. No matter how we worked around it someone is getting screwed.

Let this be an us only cup and we (euros) make an own one too.

Do this.

We would win on US servers too.

No you wouldn't.

If the germans want to be apart of a league where it's "fair" for them, then they can make their own, instead of whining about something someone else is doing. Seriously what's so hard about that? I mean other than you guys probably don't have the people to do it.

Also, this isn't "bix's" tourney. It is pbcup ran by eR33t gaming.

This is where you are wrong.  You can call it PBCup all you want, you can talk as if you were eR33t, but this thing will never be anything like the PBCup Spring league of 2005. It will just be one of so many small tournaments.

(so why does everybody seem to care so much??)

-Randomize home and away status is one option.

Anyway it's set. Thanks for considering my suggestions anyway.

- That's your job to make a rule about it.
- I'm sure , clans can find a deal between them.

Well I dont know if I will play in this one, unless my uR counterparts pull me into this. I dont like that the european clans are not being brought in to help put this thing together. Maybe instead of er33t organizing things by themselves, get clans like maybe qehs or some active euro clans to come up with some way to make this work.

Maybe Tie can be decided on whoever wins by the most points, choose server. Just one Idea. Thats how we have been playing. It works good and noone crys or complains. Just bring your A game. We all will have chances to practice these maps so there shouldnt be any unfair advantages, other than the ping issue. Good Idea, Bad Idea?

Lets say we were to allow euro servers, how would the servers work? American's map on euro server, euro's map on American server? Then what do we do for tie? If we do the point spread thing it isn't really fair. One map could be 48-12 while the other is 24-6. The same ratio of win; but whoever has the 48-12 map gets the tie. Someone gets shafted. Please purpose how it could work.

Title: Re: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League
Post by: Bix on May 23, 2009, 09:00:42 PM
Only thing I could conceive would be this example.

Lets say we have 16 teams. Four Euro teams. Two brackets of eight. Two Euro teams in each bracket. You play each team in your bracket once, therefore you have 7 games. We do American's map on euro server and euro's map on American server. For the tie map the Euros play three tie maps on Euro servers and four tie maps on the American servers throughout the regular season. Thereforether euros play 3/7 their maps on Euro servers while the Americans play 4/7 their maps AGAINST Euros on American servers.

Maybe the Euros could choose the 3 matches where the tie map is on their server. Therefore they still have some advantage.

What about the home and away system I proposed? :)

I think it's possible to, when you randomize the schedule, make it like any other sports season. One fixture you play at 'home' the next you play 'away'. When you play at 'home' you pick the tie server.
Title: Re: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League
Post by: Henkka on May 23, 2009, 09:35:32 PM
Or if anyone doesn't have any kind of obsession that it'd have to be Euro vs American team, simple way would be to create European and American conferenses. Then there would be only one match (the final), that would have the server problem. I would like this. It's after all a lot more fun to play with a low ping.

I didn't even know euros matched americans anymore.  Since I have been in [eR33t] I don't think we have even matched a euro clan, or I wasn't present for them.  I asked BoB today when the last time he has matched any clan from the euro scene and his response:

<[AR3T]B0B> before that i think we played darkness or whatever like 6 months ago and plowed them
<[AR3T]B0B> in a 6v6
<[AR3T]B0B> think that was the last time

The last time I have personally matched a euro clan was against .cYr.  The only reason I got to play them was because I was playing with [CC].  This was probably a few months ago, or whenever mosez quit .cYr. because it happened right after we beat them.

Maybe it wasn't due to the hassle, but due to us forgetting you guys even existed except in OTB speed servers.

The timing isn't that big of a difference... Only people it would really affect are clans with members from the West Coast (s2k?). 5-6 hour differences aren't too bad, plus there's weekends...

As for the Tie map ideas, Bix's proposed idea of having a set amount of tie maps on each server could work. Also, the Home-Away system might work, but that would be a lot of work for er33t? Not sure.

Somebody could just set up an IRC bot that would randomly pick both map and server (or just one). Not sure how hard that would be to script but I suppose it would be "fair".

I live there, doesn't help, you ping high in every serv. Soo Americans and Euros would both ping high there.

Althought euros would be in disadvantage, since this is organised by er33t, the tie should be hosted on their servers, but only in american vs euro.
Of course that in an euro vs euro the match is played in euro servers.

Racism has little to do with it. Playing with high pings just sucks. It is not the way the game was designed to be played. I respect aussies who can play well despite it. But I don't like to play in any kind of serious competition when my response time is hampered from the outset (I suck enough as it is!).

An international contest with all of DP is intriguing. But when it comes down to it we just can't make it fair.

Having said that, Viciouz alleged that his cheapvps servers in UK pinged around 100 for both euro and usa players, making a possible solution for tie maps.

Just  a thought.

I remember the first PBCup QeHs took part in. There were little if any problems encountered by us. We seemed to be able to pick match times that were neither too late for us, or too early for the Americans. I'm almost certain our matches started and ended up as 4v4 matches.

Too much hostility going on just because we Euro's hate Americans, and the Americans hate the Euros. Lets keep the hate, its good fun and makes intercontinental matches greater, but come just act civilised until a tournament is up and running! Then... let the hate commence :D

(Bad idea to get bix as the spokesman btw, hard to take him seriously at all, better any of er33t take it on themselves to update information in this thread)

At the end of the day, you  can't force the organisers of a tournament to use certain servers, they really don't owe anything to anyone. Offer suggestions as to how to incorporate Euro servers, and hopefully the organisers will take it into consideration, but they can honestly tell you where to stick it tbh (in a nicer way of course, another reason to lose bix btw..)

EuroPaint is an example of Euro-only servers being used, and plenty of Americans enjoyed these competitions.
Title: Re: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League
Post by: idias on May 26, 2009, 01:09:35 PM
When are you planning on having the next EuroPaint?  [Off-Topic]

Coming from the experience of the first PBCup, I'm even surprised we're letting euros play at all. Playing euros means setting up times to match people can rarely make resulting in either team not having their best lineup around (most often this is the American team since asking German's to play at like 3am there time is pretty absurd).

I'm almost positive every time we played euros in the original pbcup we had to play 3on4 because of the timezone issues. For any serious league, this is just stupid.

You guys should choose the most neutral time has possible, since most of the euro players are german, you should consider that. And althought this is organised by eR33t, this is PBCup, not just for americans but for the entire DP community available to play.

I believe you should set a time, and than teams will see if they can join or not. You are right, about some teams not being able to play, but lets try to work something out instead of putting euros on the side.

I was trying to defend the American standpoint. My point regarding you stil stands tho.

Its simple, a PBCup that contains both USA and European servers would do more to unite the Community, however, the organisers of the competition are all American, so therefore they can choose to hold only American servers if they wish, I won't blame them for doing that as it makes organising this thing so much easier.

But if anyone can incorporate both and make it a success, its er33t.

I am not a racist. I am a realist. Folks who get up to go to work or school at different times than most North Americans and have different pings than most North Americans don't need to be  dictating servers and times in a North American sponsored event.

If you want an olympics-like global event then fly your international butts over here  and set up an olympic village.  Barring that I don't think there is much to be done about it.

This being a North American sponsored event it should cater to North American pings and North American times.

And if it means I never get to compete internationally then I can live with that. I hate playing high ping matches. It holds zero appeal. It is not competition. It is an accomodation of a self-made handi-cap.

The best solution to the different pings is don't play each other.

I think if others from around the world play, the rules should just say everyone must cater to U.S. time zones, unless both teams agree otherwise. If not, there'd be so many disputes of times that half the matches wouldn't get played in time.

Your tourney doesnt deserves the name PBCup.
Title: Re: Introducing PBCup Summer 2009 4v4 League

See this is why the bloody Home and Away system would've worked best.

Home = Home Time Zone, Home Servers, HOME EVERYTHING
Away = Away Time Zone, Away Servers, AWAY EVERYTHING

Although in this case it is the eR33t servers so it wouldn't make a difference, but the TIMEZONES would.

I would also like to note that uhh, I'M SLEEPING or IM AT SCHOOL when it suits EURO and AMERICAN times so..... think, there are other people in the world that play this game, not just YOU.

[/sarcasm]

That should end your little discussion about time zones, so get over it.  I can NEVER PLAY in a tournament without it being at a disturbing time for someone else.

Now explain to me this please: Why on earth does this american cup deserve a private sub-forum?

It used to, because it was a worldwide, long-lasting cup. A cup that helped the clan scene.

Hmm. Lets see. Xbain started PBCup and has allowed the sub-forums to again be used.

I don't really care for what the Euros have to say about the summer PBCup anymore. It is going to cater for North Americans. It is to help the American clan scene. The goal is for it to be long lasting. If this is successful the next season will probably include both European and American servers. Maga, please feel free to drop out if you are not happy with PBCup, as you do not seem very pleased.

I'd rather it be called like North American PBCup or something though. The PBCup name should be reserved for any future truly global tournament! :D

We had dedicated german translators in 2006 for every news post + all rules and there were still people who could not understand the match format or other rules that were different than the casual match standards. The player base has expanded since then and now it's not just DE and a handful of UK players, there are many more non-english speaking players from CZ, FI, FR who are not represented on this forum that will want to play too. It's no secret that there have been more european players than american players for a couple years now, why isn't anyone organizing more cups, ladders or leagues for that continent? There are probably enough czechs and germans to each run their own leagues/tourneys if someone would step up to the plate and DO it. Europe even has a couple competant and helpful server admins too. None of the EuroPaint threads were filled with complaints from americans who didn't want to play with high pings.

I'm really glad to see PureBlood and lekky organize an -- almost exclusively -- European tournament, because I always hated the guilt trip I received when trying to organize a segregated or NA-only PBCup.

Not much has changed... Since it's so easy to organize these things in the first place, why not just double the teams and exponentially increase the difficulty of running it successfully?

The ping difference is absurd to play with, people have seem to forgotten how much of an impact it really has. With two evenly matched teams, it will usually come down to who has the home server advantage. It's hard to be truly fair with home/away selections unless you're running a double round-robin, but how do you make tie maps fair for the playoffs?

As for time difference... some american teams don't start playing matches until 0200 CET on weeknights. They also aren't really in the mood to wake up hungover at 10am on a weekend to play their scheduled league match in the only timeslot they could agree on.

See this is why the bloody Home and Away system would've worked best.

Home = Home Time Zone, Home Servers, HOME EVERYTHING
Away = Away Time Zone, Away Servers, AWAY EVERYTHING

What real-world sports  teams would agree to the following scenario?

For each round of the playoffs you will play three games.

In the first game a random team will play with mind-altering drugs delaying your reflexes for a fraction of a second.

In game two the other team will have the same drug induced delay.

In the third game the first team again will have the delay.

The winner is likely decided by who gets the random pick first. I doubt many teams would go for that.

Everyone is saying they want global competition. We would not really be seeing global competition.  Instead we would see teams take turns handicapping themselves. We would NEVER see a game where both can play their best simultaneously. What is the point?

If global competition is the goal then we have to admit it is an impossible one as things stand right now.

Quote

I would also like to note that uhh, I'M SLEEPING or IM AT SCHOOL when it suits EURO and AMERICAN times so..... think, there are other people in the world that play this game, not just YOU.

[/sarcasm]
I  already referenced Australians playing. Who said you don't?

But if you can't get enough people in your region to set up servers and play the game then you are stuck with the drawbacks to playing on other people's servers.

Quote

That should end your little discussion about time zones, so get over it.  I can NEVER PLAY in a tournament without it being at a disturbing time for someone else.

Why would that end the little discussion? Your DP life sucks due to ping and time. We get it.  So do what some Aussies have in the past. Get a server and get the Aussie community gaming.  And then we won't ask you to cater to us either. I would never dream of playing on an Aussie server.

Nope not that cup. If the cup was like this in the first place I very much doubt he would have been given a forum. A cup thats not democratic at all, its not a worlwide cup and a cup in which you dont listen to anyone. Not the same cup at all mate.

So ask for a Euro-cup Sub-forum and we will see.

As to it being democratic, since when do cups have to be democratic? Someone has to organize any event like this. Someone has to call the shots.

Why should they listen to you and bring on endless headaches that are not needed?

Why have global "competition" when we don't have the means to allow both teams to compete equally at the same time?

Now if those who favor international competition want to put up some money to test the idea they can rent the UK servers that Viciouz did and see if it is true that they ping around 100 for both Euros and Americans.

If so they could hold a competition for both.

It would cost about 5 British pounds a month to run two match servers:

Why insisting on tie maps? Since it's so darn hard and every time someone will have something to say about the tie map ping issue.

Tie maps are  used in matching/scrimming.

So here, the only thing is question of format. If you play same map - once on USA, once on EU server and winner is who scores more combined, that would make tie map unnecessary. Also adjust score system so it would fit in.

And don't give me the crap that rules are set. Question is do you want whole DP community to participate and to have fair tournament or for NA community only.

There are ways to have a fair international cup but people just still keep posting and whining how it cannot be made fair instead of actually using brain and thinking how it can be done. People are just skeptical and dumb. Playing in a server with 150-200 ping is not that bad. People like m7feettall could just drop out if its so bad. Euros have won americans in their servers many times and the other way around. Playing with a lower ping is like a homefield advantage which you can see in the real sports.

And people, it's an internet game. The ability of playing these cups is important, not winning. It doesnt ruin your life if you lose. Stop the god darn whining.

If it is not so bad to play with 150 to 200 ping and you can beat Americans under those conditions then there is no reason to cater to you by allowing Euro servers in the tournament.

Feel free to play on American terms on the eR33t servers. And if anyone over in Europe does not like the high pings, then as you said, they can drop out.

Surely they can't complain about losing because of pings then because according to you winning doesn't matter.

Now as to addressing folks coming up with fair alternatives--I already did suggest one, but someone would have to put some money up to try it on the UK servers Viciouz talked about.

If you play same map - once on USA, once on EU server and winner is who scores more combined, that would make tie map unnecessary. Also adjust score system so it would fit in.

Who would pick the one map for the finals etc. in this scenario? And would you have the map that both teams played set out for each match ahead of time for all teams?

Just seeing how this would work out?

Yes, maps would be decided in advance from cup organisator. Finals would also be played on 2 same maps.

But we can drop it since Bix obviously stated this is not for us. So any further comment on format is waste of time.

This person doesn't want to play with bad pings. I won't even play on s2k's servers, which are in the US, because I ping over 100 to them.  Apparently a lot of other folks in the USA feel the same. Saying it is about nationalities is just stirring up trouble. It is about bad ping.

I agree that in the example you list there is an extreme home field advantage. Is that the norm? No.

And I confess I don't follow soccer much. Do they host many international events in Bolivia's mountains? Or do they look for more even playing fields?

And does that advantage reverse when they go to the other hometown? If not then consider eR33t servers your Bolivian equivalent. You are coming to an event they are hosting and must live with the penalty.

You all say you want something fair. But alternating very unfair conditions is not actually fair. It just means that the team that gets two maps on the bad conditions is likely to lose.

And at no point can you have both teams playing at their top level.

And how have I changed because I don't want to play with high ping?

I have had the same position on that point all along. As anyone who was in InT with me could tell you I did not like to match folks across the pond due to ping issues. I made it very clear then and do now.

You all want to make it a national issue when it is a practical issue. Branding folks as ethnocentric because they don't want headaches associated with high ping and different time zones is smearing.

that sounds pretty homo, there wasnt even 1 european server when i started playing dp. And it doesnt realy make a diff if you ping 80 or 130 it just looks big. and we had servers for the pbcup where euros pinged 120-140 and yankees 60-100 or kinda. that was pretty cool. You have to understand that this game isnt based on a american community its based on a global community. But as others have mentioned, complaining is pointles since you guys dont want to play european ppl. The matter is that its just not the pbcup and a NA only cup shouldnt deserve a sub-forum. Just because one of the organisators of the pbcup hosts it doesnt mean its the pbcup :/
gtfo with that ping excuse, as mentioned, the home away system would make things fair - absolutely. i quess youre not the best player with a low ping so why are you scared to play with a high ping? thats not helpfull for the community.

Boo-hoo it's just not fair... if the germans get their own sub forum, I want a sub forum for all my french canadian pals.

A lot of you are forgetting about PBCup #1, #2, and #3,  a series of very successful 1-day cups that were organized by eR33t on our original servers. What about the pbcup.com domain we own or #pbcup, are we not allowed to use these because they got involved with some attempt at running a league with europeans 3 years ago? I really wanted to call the 2006 one "PB World Cup" once we decided to have european teams, but it sounded kind've lame and I already had the domain name.

A name is a name.. a forum is a forum. We could call this eGCup and post updates in the Clans, Matches, and Tournaments board just to make everyone happy but what's the point?

Bain dont try to twist this around. The forums don't belong to you or er33t. Theres a german sub-forum because theres a lot of germans in this game. And where this cup is going it certainly won't have as many teams as europaint, let alone more.

This is an eR33t tournament made for eR33t to win. It does not deserve a sub-forum.

Did you ever ask for a Europaint sub-forum?

If not then you have no idea whether one would be granted.

And Henkka I did read your message. I was simply pointing out that if high ping is not that bad then you shouldn't have a problem playing on all USA servers.

If it is that bad then you have no reason to downplay the problem.

Bain dont try to twist this around. The forums don't belong to you or er33t.
Seems like Bain made a good argument to me.

They own the irc, they own the website, they hosted the first events using the name.

Why should they not be able to use the name?

If you think it is a problem that they use the forum then ask Jits to remove it.

Or just ask him to add a Europaint forum.

It was never asked for europaint for obvious reasons. Imagine if every cup had a sub-forum. It's like you said, they own their channel, some website (what website btw?) and they hosted the first ones. So yeah they can use the name they want. But this cup does NOT deserve a sub-forum.

I won't ask jitspoe excrement because he has more important things on his probably. I'm just saying it's unfair. And it is. Doesn't even have arguments the other way around.

But this discussion is stupid, noone really cares if this has a sub-forum or not. It's just unfair.

If i remember correctly didn't pbcup get a sub forum because it is one of the larger tournaments that requires a lot of different threads. For example they report the outcome of a match, and also threads where people try to get a hold of some one from another clan so that they can set up their match, and also the threads that leave details about rules, match times and other important stuff. With all the information left on the forum for PBcup it makes sense that they get a sub forum just for organizational sake. It helps keep the tournament threads separate from the everyday clans and matches stuff. Also, I don't think anyone would freak out if you wanted to use this subforum for a eurocup, if it were on at a different time (to keep the two tournaments from getting mixed up). And I don't suspect there being any problems for you if you really need a subforum of your own to help you make a tournament. I don't understand why peanut butter cup is a international title.

But i don't really care about that nonsense.

I'm here to ask... Are there going to be shoutcasts or what ever you call them. And will you be leaving demos of every match for all to see, somewhere on the site. It would be nice to see a nice pretty little bracket that shows completed matches, the scores, links to demos of the matches, and possibly links to the commentary of the matches. That way there can be in some way a chance for spectators to enjoy the tournament, as well as teach noobies how to match correctly (strategy and what not), and also maybe entice other players to join the next PBcup. Also if this bracket were made with all the essentials, then it would provide a history, and allow future players to look back and see how a properly run tournament is done, and allow future players to see some of the people playing today. If you don't understand what i mean then i could draw a mockup on paint and show it to. I wouldn't know how to actually make it however.

Think about it, think, think, think about it!

Alright, lets take tennis as the sport.  Surface is relatively equal to ping.  You might play home on a synthetic grass surface and have a lower ball bounce, and then go away to a club that has rebound ace where the ball will bound a lot higher.  Thats pretty much equal with ping, as you have to change your gameplay, so instead of hitting balls that bounce low, you have to hit them a bit higher.  And why are we still arguing?  Theres no point anyway.

Also, what the hell is your fuss with playing on a s2k server.  100 ping boo hoo, at least they are there.  You seem to only be able to support your LOCAL dp scene, and no-one else.  I reallllly want you to come over here for 2 weeks and watch you whine on the forums about having a 200 ping all the time, you couldn't live with the way you seem to act towards ping.

(apologies m7, but your character seems to have changed somewhat recently)

What is my fuss with playing on an s2k server?  I am not upset with s2k's 100 ping because I don't play there.  Why play on a server with high ping when there are ones with low ping?  Folks play what works for them. Therefore Super's and eR33t's more centrally located servers get played more than s2ks.

Even in the US where we have servers to play on  I am currently renting a dp server because I enjoy the speed style now and again and there wasn't a lot of that going on.  So if  I were in your country and was worried about it I could always rent a server and get some friends to play, or just not play dp.

Is there some problem in Australia that we are not aware of that server costs are much higher? Maybe so. But if not, and you want those lower pings then put some money up. That is what eR33t did. And now they want to use the servers they paid for to host an event. Great for them.

That's not what I meant.  For a European playing on an American server compared to an American playing on a European server... It seems American datacentres are better in this regard because the Europeans always ping lower on our servers than we do on European servers.  Same goes for the Aussies who ping lower on our servers than the European ones. Was just wondering if this had to do with better American infrastructure in regards to datacentres and whatnot.

oh, that. Yeah America probably has better infrastructures. But ping wise it ends up being the same excrement, because you have better internet too. You get me? You have better servers and internet so it evens things.

I ping 230 to the European servers since I live on the west coast. You ping 150 to our servers. :-/

what do you want me to tell you? If I get a guy from Ukrain he'll ping 350 to your servers. Think a bit before posting please. :)

You see Cameron, we Americans enjoy our low ping, just as we enjoy our guns, wasteful lifestyles, overspending, and sheer arrogance. Take one of these away from us and we whine, cry and complain until we get our way. That is the American way.

By all means feel free to move if you feel guilt over your heritage of decent internet.

Uhh, yeah, quite a bit more expensive if you want a good connection, as good connections require a fair amount of money over here, as our internet is sorta excrement.

In looking around I compared the cheapest AU server hosting place I could to Extreme gamers which the Canadian outfit several use around here for pre-configured 16 slot servers.

Australian prices were a fair amount higher.

A 16 slot CS 1.6 server with 16 slots was about 40 bucks USA in Australia and 29 in Canada for similar type servers. But that is not so high that it would be prohibitive for folks wanting to get something going.

The point for me is simply that I want to play a game the way it was meant to be with low ping. If I can't do that I just don't play.

Some of the older games I like to play I have trouble finding decent ping servers in my area. So I just don't play them anymore.

Pre-configured servers suck.  You don't have control over them what so ever.  Buy some rackspace and you get more for your money in my opinion.  Its really only the connection which is where the price rises as internet costs a whole lotta money here.

Btw, we do get the high speed internet stuff, its just all of the companies over here are intercoursewits and only send out crappy cable connections which you get max 5mbit on.  I get more on my DSL connection, only just though.

Woah, i bet no european pings that low to the er33t-servers. I ping easily over 200 to the er33ts. But it wouldn't be any fair either way so this is pointless. Still the good and fair way is to play in both servers. The pathetic whiners who cant stand playing in bad server every other match, i can't even find the words for you...

and people call American's whiners? lol

I'm sure even if we named it PBCup American Classic, you'd still whine. I mean, they only wanted to start an American league this time, and eveyone's whining over a simple name, which otherwise would never have gotten used again. No matter what the name, all they want is an American league, so thats what it'll be, since its a lot simpler to set up and schedule. Maybe when we get enough resources and support, we'll turn following leagues international.

Many in the USA are far below 5mb anyway. And you certainly don't need that for paintball.

Did you even read the thread? Noone's complaining about the name.

This is worth a double post.

"Your tourney doesnt deserves the name PBCup." - Hauke

"Why on earth does this american cup deserve a private sub-forum? It used to, because it was a worldwide, long-lasting cup. A cup that helped the clan scene. " - Maga (basically hinting we should change the name since it wasn't the same tourney it was)

"The PBCup name should be reserved for any future truly global tournament!" -Lekky

"Nope not that cup. If the cup was like this in the first place I very much doubt he would have been given a forum. A cup thats not democratic at all, its not a worlwide cup and a cup in which you dont listen to anyone. Not the same cup at all mate" -Maga (again hinting you don't feel it is the same cup etc)

"im ok with a north american cup, but thats not the pbcup :/ " -Hauke

"Its all said now, its a NA only cup, however it isnt the pbcup." -Hauke

"Anyway, don't call it PBCup, and everyone is happy. PBCup should be reserved as a global tournament, this is the issue Europeans are having a problem with." -Lekky

"This American cup having a sub-forum is definitely unfair. Europaint never had a sub-forum here. One could understand why the PBCup had this, but what you're organising now is not at all like that previous cup." -Maga (more of the same whining over the name and use of the sub-forum that goes with the name)

Now Maga, did you read the thread? People were complaining about the name in multiple posts. You clearly are not happy with what we are calling it because it isn't the 'like the previous one'.

Just thought I'd throw this in here. "This is an eR33t tournament made for eR33t to win." -Maga

Thanks for showing everyone I never complained about the name ;)

Those extrapolations you make out of my words are obviously incorrect.

I honestly dont want to post in pbcup threads anymore so please stop posting lies and dragging me into this.

:)
